327 Blackhawk Question

OK, I am a newbie here, so I guess I rate at least one newbie type question. I had been out of touch on handguns, especially BH types, so when by a random happenstance I discovered the .327 Magnum Blackhawk, I jumped on it like a duck on a Junebug. I didn't stop to notice that it was an eight shooter, that .327 ammo is getting hard to find already (or maybe never got easy to find??) or anything else except it was the first full-sized SA .32 I'd seen since I sold my Buckeye Special .32 combo gun in a fit of stupidity.

So for the question. Has anyone been shooting one of these a lot? I'm looking at the idea of using the old Ideal 3118 bullet (fortunately I just ordered a newly made 4 banger mould for it in a Cast Boolit Group Buy) in front of some reasonably available powder in Federal .327 cases I think I have gotten located. So what powder is working and how much of it? Any and all help will be most appreciated.

I personally think that IMR 4227 might really shine in a 327. That powder is great in .30 carbine, .22 Hornet. So long small diameter cartridges should do well with it. With cast bullets, the 327 should be fun

I bought one of the 327's over a year ago. I enjoy mine, and I have over 1000 pieces of brass. I'm in line for a different group buy mould over on cast boolits myself.
Mine shoots great, and I've been tinkering with it a little. I cleaned up the action, and added some of Lance Shivleys hammer & trigger shims. As for reloads, I'd have to go & see what I've done. But if my memory is correct, I started with some jacketed bullets. I had a bunch of 32 maggies loaded with some LSWC's and have enjoyed them too. It's a true sleeper of a fun gun.

I load 327 for a Ruger 101. I use Missouri Bullet 100 gr bullets, usually with HS-6. The 327 is the only reload that consistently leads the barrel. I prefer
to shoot 32 mags in my 101 and single sixes and not have the leading issue. I love the 32mag.

I have a GP100 327 and and cast 115 gr LSWC lyman 311008 with 3.8grs green dot and 4.5 grd of bulleyes and they shoot great I was getting some leading issues with my lube 60 /40 beeswax parifin then added a few drops of Lee liqud alox and cooked it up and put it in my Lyma 4500 sizer sized .313 and no leading I really enjoy this round I wish someone would make a leaver gun for it

I have one of these and have been having a ball squirrell hunting with it this year. I got in on the 115 grain Keith group buy a while ago over at cast boolits and have a load that works great using H-110. I use that powder a lot I got a great deal on it years ago buying almost 50 pounds of it for $100.

i have the 327 mag in a gp100 factory ammo is a bit tough to find i grab a box here and there when i can, mostly for the brass . ive got about 300 rounds of once fired and managed to get my hands on 300 rounds of new brass from midsouth a while back .i also found 4 boxes of 32 h&r mag brass on clearance at a lgs with about 1/2 inch of dust on them lol. i tried some 100 gr raineer bullets loaded with unique with no luck , ive been shooting hornady 85 gr xtp's out of it with ok grouping shooting bench rested at 25 yrds . the load that seems to work best for me is the lee 90 gr tl swc bullet loaded with 4.5 gr of hp 38 . usualy i cast then lube with alox diluted with mineral spirits then resize to .314 then lube again with straight alox and end up with no leading . i have been toying with the notion of buying the lyman 115 gr 32 cal mold .

I shoot all 3 Ruger 327's.

My go to handload is the 115gr RNFP bullet with 3.7 gr Clays powder. This is listed as a max load by Hodgdon in their annual Reloading book. It generates around 1,000 fps in my 8-shot BlackHawk and I get very good accuracy for my needs (3-4" groups offhand at 25 yards).

Clays is my favorite lead bullet powder. It is not as position-sensative as some other powders, uses a relatively low charge weight (3.7 gr means almost 1,900 reloads from a pound of powder). It burns pretty clean also.
It is also available in 8 pound jugs at about $100-110. I do not use magnum small pistol primers with this powder, standard will do fine.
