I saw this:

http://www.gunsamerica.com/930763861/Guns/Pistols/Ruger-Semi-Auto-Pistols/P-Series/Ruger_P89_9MM_30_Luger.htm

A P89 9mm with conversion components for a .30 luger.

Could I purchase a .30 luger barrel for a P94? I'm not sure why I'd want to...just curious how similar the P89 and P94 are and if this swap is possible.

Sorry for the newbie question!!

The P89X was a 9mm/30Luger convertible but it's doubtful the barrel will fit in a P94 but I guess if it did, it would have to be in one of the earlier models. I was recently told that the barrel links were changed somewhere along the production process and only the earlier models will accept both the 9mm and the 40S&W barrels. If I were to guess, the 9mm barrels are the same throughtout the 85,89,95 and 95 but with different lengths. I had to get a manual safety gun for the 30 Luger barrel to work with my P89 but it works fine now and it's my favorite semiauto plinker.

695! That is high. You can find the P89x cheaper.

Hey Flash,
Why did you have to get the safe model? And why is that your favorite?

You can get barrel lugs from Ruger for 2 bucks. I just ordered one so I can use a ported barrel in my old P93. Has the tip on the guide rod.

Also have an extra P85 barrel that drops in to my P93 for an extra length.

I replied in a similar thread recently: http://www.rugerforum.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=107597

Basically, I picked up a 30 luger barrel for my P94 and had to make several untested and therefore unsafe mods to make it fit the P94. However, I have never shot it because I don't have any 30 luger ammo. It might work fine. It might blow up in my face. Who knows? If I ever score some cheap 30 luger I will definitely report on it.

How did you mod the barrel? Post a pic please.

I have ordered the barrel lug from Ruger and plan on changing it to the old style tip guide rod application. Is that what you mean? The lug was only 2 bucks from Ruger.

A barrel lug is part of the barrel. what do you mean you ordered it?

Roylt,
I had to buy the manual safety because I owned an early decocker that had a different frame than the 89X and the barrel wouldn't work. The frame was changed during the early production of the 89 and the X was released during that later production.

another one.

Neither auction shows pictures of the model number sticker. In fact neither box looks like it accomodates all the parts properly so my guess would be bogus X's.

Manual actally calls it the barrel link. Attached to the barrel with a little pin.
This is where the slide release goes thru.

The box has the extra slot for the barrel. Is there more? Post a pic of the unit you have if you don't mind.

I really don't know if these are bogus or not but sure look correct to me.

Oh, you meant to say barrel LINK. That makes more sense. I'll have to go look.

I don't have an X, I put it together when I found two Luger barrels on the net but the photos should at least show the model number otherwise, it might not letter as an X.

November, haven't found one yet but still looking locally. A new shop opened about 20 miles from me so I might head up there on Saturday.

roylt, There's a few crucial mods that need to be done, but I'm not comfortable getting into specific details until I shoot this thing myself. In fact I don't recommend that anybody do this mod to a P94 period. Much easier and safer to just pick up a P89 and a .30 luger barrel. Sorry I can't be of more assistance.

ship4brains, Is it possible? Yes. Should you do it? No.

I don't plan on doing anything that crazy but now am curious. I'll have to look at the barrels in my guns and compare.

I have an older P94 and I thought the barrels are the same in the 89. I know the newer 94's are different for sure.
