3 screw single six date?

I have bought an unconverted old model 3 screw single six 5.5” barrel. Gonna pick it up tomorrow. Serial number is 31568 does this put it about 1955? What year did Ruger start the 22lr/22 mag ?
Looks like it will be a nice shooter, has the windage adjustable rear sight. I have several New models, this is my first 3 screw. Got it for a GREAT price.

The .22 magnum didn’t developed until 1958.
Any Ruger below 150000 isn’t magnum bored. The barrels bore is smaller.

Well,
Serial is '55......
But, should be a flatgate, should have a serrated ER button, with long throw ejector housing, and black rubber grips.
Not original , a good shooter!!

Congrats on the first 3-screw.
Shoot the hell out of it!!

Yes,, some things have been swapped out on that shooter. I like the "plum" colored main frame.

Good information above.

One possibility to consider . . . late shipment.

If this gun was shipped somewhat later than the serial number would suggest it could have had the ejector rod and loading gate shown. Even if that were true, it would have had the black grip panels mentioned by Jaydawg .

This has occurred in a few cases. A factory letter would confirm the ship date, but not the particular components mentioned.

Regardless, IMHO you stole that ol' puppy.

you did good, and yes by the pictures, condition, it is an assortment of parts ,but that should NOT be an issue, the proof is in the shooting and how it feels, handles and works for YOU..........

On the old model single sixes and bearcats with no transfer bar conversion. Can the revolver still fire on a loaded round if dropped or something hit the hammer hard if it’s on the “2nd click” safety notch?

Yes. It's possible. The 2nd click notch. THAT'S NOT A SAFETY!

A sharp enough blow can break the trigger or hammer notch & cause the hammer to hit the firing pin.

Unless you are planning on shooting NOW then the way to carry is to load one, skip one, load four then cock and drop the hammer.
