3 Screw Sing Six LIGHTENING Conversion (Expert Help Please)

Has anyone done the "Gungrip" brass lightening gripframe conversion. They say it will fit the following perfectly guaranteed. Its $179 plus $6 shipping.

It comes with grip panels and screws. I'm ordering Monday. Hopefully all will go well. I have a LNIB 1962 5 1/2" with fluted mag cylinder. The transfer bar conversion has been done.

Hmm, your '62 vintage Single-Six has a coil spring and plunger designed trigger spring. The guns listed above use a "long legged" spring design for the trigger return. I hope you are aware of the differences. You'll need to fabricate an "adaptor" that'll carry a pre '73 trigger spring within the trigger spring slot of the post '72 grip frame.

Are we talking about this hole (or lack of) behind the trigger slot for the plunger and spring?

Yes, that's required to utilize the Old Model trigger mechanism. It could also be "adapted" to the New Model design if the trigger was either narrowed or the trigger slot was made wider.

At $180 plus bucks, I don't want to adapt. It looks like an "old army" frame would work as well.

I like that grip frame far more than the standard Birdshead! I have one on a Cimarron .38 Lightening.

If you want the Lightening I wouldn't nix it because of the need to adapt it. The easiest way is to buy an adapter trigger from Clement's custom guns: http://www.clementscustomguns.com/

He sells them for $45 and they are a 'drop in'. They are also wide like the NM Rugers and will fill the wide slot in the lightening trigger guard.

The old army grip frame will bolt right on and work on your three screw. But it has a wide trigger slot and you'll need an Old Army/OM super Bkhk wide trigger if you want to fill the slot. That's what this OM has but the triggers are impossible to find:

Or you can easily modify an OM Super Bkhk transfer bar conversion trigger, they're easier to find. Or send in an OM Super for conversion and get a trigger for free.
