I was at cabelas in east hartford ct this weekend and there was not a box of 22s in the place not even the $60 a box target stuff I had to laugh people are just crazy just how much does a person need to have on hand ? Then they go go nuts and buy when the prices are high I will just sit back and watch the show

I noticed Cabelas has been doing a real good job keeping their web site up to date on ammo and gun stuff, any time they have AR15 mags or ammo come in it's put on the site then taken down as soon as they sell out, it pays to check their site often if your looking for something.

Have done that for decades with reloading supplies (brass, primers, bullets, etc), rimfire ammo, scopes and mounts, etc. IOW buy enough to last you for years when the price is low or on sale because the price will certainly go up and shortages will occur (and they have many times).
With rimfire ammo, I switched to the 17HMR and 17HM2 in turn when they each first came along and projected at least a 10 year supply of ammo I wanted to buy for each of them (all in the same lot number). With my useage at the time of around 10K per year that meant 100K of each minimum. I bought way more than that, in part because by buying so many bricks of ammo all at once the prices were a bunch lower the more I bought. I shot two different bullets in the 17HMR eventually, so added a huge supply of the second when it came along too. I was right on track in useage until 2005, but my needs changed when my health did and went down. I went from owning three 17HMR's to one, from three 17HM2's to two. So those one time buys turned into a life time supply of ammo. Good planning considering how much higher that ammo became soon after they caught on, how much higher they are now.
Did the same with favored scopes and other related gear... bought extra's for future needs when I had the money and prices were lower. Seldom bought brass, bullets or primers in less than 10K quantities; powder in 8# jugs instead of 1#-2# several at a time, and continually builded on the reserves for all execpt powder (I bought two of each again when I started using the last jug of a preferred powder).
So call it hoarding if you want, but shortages never touched me, I helped some friends get through them, and in the end saved a lot of money. I call that planning ahead - not hoarding. :wink:

I just looked there and most of it is from the north or midwest. Guess you guys can still buy it.
Around here the Wal Mart (4 locations) shelves are like old mother Hubbard's cupboard. No .22lr OR mag anywhere. I haven't been to Dicks to see if they have anything but they are too overpriced normally. If they have any I doubt I can afford it

HA! There is no overpriced if on a known retailer shelf as far as I've seen yet. If it's too high for you, the next guy will buy it.

Try some 22 Ramset loads. No shortage on them so far
and behind Midways 34gr Dogtown bullets they plink just
fine. Yellow loads give good power. And brown loads with
.22 airgun pellets make fine plinkers in my basement.

started with a 22 when I was 15 I was 56 yesterday. In all of that time I have never had a problem picking up a box of 22 whenever I needed. Just never really had it think about stockpiling. Will yesterday I went to the range at Bass Pro shop. And they happen to rollout a cart with 22 long rifle and 380. Hundred rounds five box maximum. Well I was excited as the day I got that first rifle.
It's been three months without being able to find a box.

I was lucky the other day to get 2 boxes of Troy 22 ammo 375 rounds per box 39.00 for one box

There has been .22 LR available in my area. Remington for $32 per brick and some of the 325 round packs for $25. And they had plenty.

Kinda lucked out. Got a new 10/22 TD a few months ago. Picked up several boxes/bricks or whatever you call those big boxes with 300 or more rounds of different types of 22LR about $150 worth of 22s to see what the new rifle likes the best. Already had a 50 cal ammo can full of 22 s going back as far as the 50s and 60s. Also had several hundred rounds of match ammo I have used for pistol/rifle 22s for cowboy action shooting side matches. Figure I now have a lifetime supply, but I am old. Prices on 22 ammo since Dec are absolutely crazy. Lets hope mfgs will catch up with demand by year's end as several have estimated.

I ordered two 525 round boxes of Federals from Cabelas website on 1/05/2013. I received an email shortly thereafter that it was expected on 3/25/2013. Three days ago I got another email from them asking me to call their toll-free number if I wished to continue the order, or it would be cancelled in 10 days.

Ordered two Federal 525 packs the second week of January from Brownells when backorder was possible. It's not here yet and I don't expect it soon.
There was a customer 22LR "issue" at Walmart here last night that has now changed the entire process. I had some hint that 9 PM was the time to get some stuff tonight so when I returned I found the little Rosey O that was half the problem last night, thanked for effing us all on buying stuff.
