With ammo cost causing a new surge of popularity for .22LR, they should reintroduce it. I would like to have one, even with the (I think) idiot tang mounted grip. I would greatly prefer traditional grips on one.

I know they do, but usually for as much or more than a NIB .357 SP-101. Plus shipping and fees. No thanks.

If you check my signature, that's my whole collection these days. All .22LR. In my previous shooting days, I enjoyed the bigger calibers, but they now shoot big holes in people's budgets.......

Thanks for the replies. I guess the good news is "Yes." The bad news is I will probably never see one...much less own one. Unless, of course, Ruger decides to re-issue the .22 SP101 . If every RugerForum member committed to buying one, that would be 21,948 new .22 SP101's sold! And I bet some of you folks would want two or three of them!

I remember my buddy telling me that the gently-used .22LR SP101 (2.25" barrel, with box and papers) was overpriced at $289. Thankfully, I didn't listen...
It may have been slightly overpriced at the time, but it sure would get grabbed up in a hurry now!
I am waiting for a LCR in 22LR....seems to be a natural progression of Ruger's new revolver line, don't you think?

Well, my .22 SP101 is extremely finicky on what it will shoot. That seems easy enough. Just buy what it likes. That'd be fine if two different batches of the same ammo were truly the same. But, with what I believe is declining quality control in the manufacture of rimfire ammo, there is just not enough consistency to be able to pinpoint any ammo that'll always work good.
Last time Heliman and I were shooting ours, the accuracy was truly disappointing. We tried a number of different brands and loads, and nothing was working. Then in frustration, and to get it used up, we tried some Thunderbolt ammo. On that day, that was the load that truly tightened up our groups. Any other time, I wouldn't normally shoot the stuff.
Someday, when I'm less cheap, I'm gonna buy some (what is considered to be) decent, target grade ammo, just to see what this gun is capable of.
A guy might argue that inconsistent ammo will perform poorly, across the board, with other guns. Mostly, that's true. But not always.
If some of this ammo gives me sub-par groups with the SP101, or a Single Six, then it leaves me scratching my head when my Standard Autos will shoot this same stuff into a ragged hole.
So, I will continue to search for an ammo brand or type that my SP likes more times than not. In the meantime, my SP is not my go-to gun.

As you've discovered,, Ruger made the SP-101 in 22 LR. Yes,, many of use here already own one or more of them.
Mine happens to be a bit more accurate than some,, and I happen to enjoy it quite well.
And yes,, good ammo is well worth the extra money at times. But,, mostly my budget for 22 ammo is the cheap Federal bulk pack stuff,,, as I love to plink a lot.

Watch gun shops, pawn shops, gun shows and Gunbroker, for a Hi-Standard Sentinel. Nine shots, less weight, and a much lower price. Too bad they're not still made. I've seen LNIB specimens and well-used ones, different barrel lengths.

This post caused me to take my SP-101 in 22 out yesterday. It's a 4" bbled one,, and I put some ELEY ammo through it. After 50 rounds,, at 25 yds,, and a total group size of about 4",,I was smiling at it. Now,, a 4" group of 50 rounds may seem a bit big,, but realize,, that most likely the issues were with the "loose nut behind the trigger" not doing his part all the time.

A 4" group is still a long ways from my ability. I've been practicing a lot but any improvement is taking me a very loooooooong time. Was your group from standing and shooting off hand or sitting and using a rest?contender said:
I'm going to start looking for a Ruger SP101 in .22...like you said it's a "fine revolver". I did just buy a Hi Standard .22 Sentinel from an estate sale which I can pick up next week but it didn't seem to be well cared for. Also, I just really like Rugers .

The only issue I have with my 2 1/4" SP101 is that fired cases are a little harder to extract than they should be sometimes. I think mine was also modified at some point since the hammer has the same hammerless profile as some of the centerfire SP101s. I like it though. If I had one in 357, this one would make an excellent understudy to it. I don't know if other people feel in my area feel the same way though. My friend had one for sale at a show a couple of years ago for a fair price, but it didn't sell there. I already had mine, but little extra cash or I would have bought his too.

I really wish Ruger would come out with a stainless 8 or 9 shot .22 LR revolver. Taurus sells the heck out of theirs around here, dealers can't get enough of them. I'll take mine with adjustable sights and a 3" barrel. 8)

Could not find a 101 .22 so ended up with S&W Model 63's, and finally, a S&W Model 35, the six incher..........Filled in my blank spots.......... 8)

If it carried 8 rounds, it would put a serious hurt on the S&W 43C, suggested retail price of $774. I won't spend that, but I'd for-sure drop close to $500 for the .22LR.

If we see a LCR 22 my guess would be on 22mag versus 22lr. Maybe with some more shooter friendly features to make it more than a pocket pistol.The 22 mag can be marketed as a self defense weapon as well as a fun gun. The real thing that has me thinking this is introduction of Hornady's 22 magnum Critical Defense load. Hornady and Ruger have been very close over the years and have worked together on a lot of products. Hornady has not really advertised the new ammo. Makes me think we will see a roll out of a new gun touting the performance of the new ammo at the same time.
If it is 22 lr I will be really surprised. Seems Ruger has the market covered with it's single actions if you want a revolver. Need more speed and faster reloads most will go with a Mark II or III. Just don't think it is a good move right now for any company to offer a gun that is strictly a plinker. If it ain't tactical or a self defense piece there is not much of a market right now.
