I've got my eye on one of these.

Any fans of this gun? I'd appreciate some good feedback.

I'm not interested in buying a used anything; thinking of buying a new production model.

Is the grip angle and thin grip 1911ish? Is that why they call it the 22/45?

Thanks to all,

Lee

The 22/45 was built to mimic the 1911 in feel. That,, and to move the mag release to the same position as a 1911.
We have 2 of the 22/45's here,, and we do enjoy them,, but neither one is a slab-side. We have 2 of the 4" bull barreled ones. We have a MKII and a MKIII in 22/45.

I carry one in my ATV bag for survival / forage when
I prospect in the desert. That it's good enough for me to bet my life on it should say something.

Thanks for the responses!

The grip feels really thin; it might take a little time to get use to it. But I really like it!

For some reason the guns that have that J. Browning angle on them just feel good to me.

I'll post if I can get it. Any more comments?

Thanks,

Lee

Just a question. What is the specific purpose of a slab-side? Is is supposed to be a reduced weight bull-barrel? I never have been able to find out. I understand bull and fluted barrels. Just haven't figured out the slabs yet.

I don't know either. I'm sure one of the gurus will let us know.

It just looks kinda cool and I like the fixed sights.

MY 'Great Eight" is a SLABSIDED 22/45 MkII. I find that I can put my left forefinger
where the slab starts, middle left finger on the front of the trigger guard and have more stability. My MkII stainless is also slab and has the
rubber Vol. Grip. Using this same technique makes it hold real steady.
That Ruger was thinking this, I have no idea but it works for me. WES

So, how do you rate the gun?

Like it, love it, any problems etc...?

Thanks,
Lee

I don't think thats a big suprise. To me the "Standard" MkII grip angle feels funny (as does the grip on a P-08 Luger). However, every Luger fan I know thinks the Ruger MkII frip is the kitty's whiskers

Imagine that

The 22/45 grip will "feel right" to you PDQ once you shoot it a few times.

Frankly, it was my son's prodding that got me to try one and (proud dad speaking, here) apparently I wasn't a total flop as a father, because he grew up with enough savvy to start teaching his old man a trick or two

And BTW: I think the factory sights on this piece are great for my purposes, but truth told, mine was a special run of Davidsons (the distributor) and the receiver cam pre-drilled for a variety of optic mounts and that was a factor for me - I like having options, even if I never "use" them.

leejack,

If you were asking me how I rate the slabsides, I think they are great. I suppose shooting one hand competion wouldn't take advantage of the
grip I mentioned. WES

Thats what I have.Only one I ever had so I don't know any difference. All I know is I like it.Lee, come back to the politics section ,we miss you.

Thanks guys; I'll let you know when I get one.

toyhunt, thanks for the kind words. Not sure when I'll be back there. I've got to look after my health right now.

They get me too upset over there.
