22/45 Custom Idea

What does anyone think of a 22/45 Stainless with the LCI removed and the slot welded up smooth and the trigger cleaned up and modded back to the MKII type configuration? Im thinking stainless cause I wouldn't have to reblue the receiver. i'm thinking the 22/45 new model that takes nice custom 1911 grips. The advantage over MKII's would be the fiber optic sights and side magazine release. Just a crazy idea- what do you all think?

Well the MKII & the MKIII 22/45 have the side mage release,,,,! The fiber optic is easily gotten & installed on the MKII. The only thing I see as an advantage is the ability to swap 1911 type grip panels.

I'd think a MkII 22/45 with $85 into a hard chrome finish or e-nickel would be a viable (and less costly) option. Mill/grind off the grip swells and mount your preferred panels.

Above is my 4" Bull Barrel Ruger MKIII 22/45. I had a local gunsmith file down the raised portion of the grip frame and install 1911 grip screw bushings (I think he charged me $40.00) then I installed Hogue 1911 Rubber Finger Groove Wrap Around Grips. This totally changed the feel of the gun.

I also added a Volquartsen Custom Target Sear, a Clark Custom Guns Steel Ruger Trigger. HiViz Fiber Optic Front Sight, a home made blast shield and polished the factory hammer. In addition I made washers to remove the Magazine Disconnect Safety.

I have not had any issues with the Loaded Chamber Indicator, so it has remained as it was.

The nice thing about Ruger Rimfires (MK Series Semi Autos, 10/22's & 77/22's) is that the owner can customize them as they see fit without a whole lot of cost of gunsmithing involved.

You can pretty much get what you want with the 22/45RP model. Fit the custom grips of your choice, swap out the sear, trigger, remove the magazine disconnector, do the slingshot mod and you're in bidness. Which is exactly what I did and I have a crisp 2.5lb, nearly creep-free trigger. You can certainly remove or disable the LCI but mine has not posed a problem so as of yet, it stays in place.

I need a good pic with the new ivory micarta grips in place.

The LCI is very easy to disable or remove. Pull the pin and take the little stamped metal piece out and one tiny spring. Reinstall the metal piece and pin or leave it out altogether. I removed mine and left the whole thing out.

Someone sells LCI inserts for stainless and blue. Check on Rimfire Central dot com. Lots of folks have installed them and they look real good.
