The rut has kicked off in SW GA. A doe popped out into one of the shooting lanes I was watching, her tail was sticking out and she stopped to urinate. Then she kept looking back in the direction she came from, fidgeting, walking in circles, etc. Her fawn from last year popped out, but I just knew something else was coming. Sure enough a 227 pound 10 point SW GA white tail stepped out. I had my M77 MKII 7mm mag sitting on my trigger stick braced against the shooting railn on the ladder stand. The buck turned to give me a good shot and I put the cross hairs behind his right shoulder and let 140 grains of Nosler Accubond do its job. I found the buck in the weeds about 10 yards off the shooting lane.

I've been hunting the same area in northeast Minnesota since 1959. This past season, the group saw fewer deer than we've ever seen.

Good sized coyotes
Yup northeast Minnesota has big coyotes, alright.... REALLY big coyotes. My son's size 12 boot next to one of the prints - might even be big enough to be a wolf track. (sarcasm)

MO antlerless season opened yesterday and I didn't hear a single shot. We lit up the area with an extended sight-in session but nothing else. As I drove back in @ dusk, 8-9 does/fawns bolted across the driveway going to our big machine shed. We're on hold pending the outcome of next week's NM elk hunt. The 'alternative methods' season opens 12/24 and runs through 1/3/23 so we can adjust the freezer level at that time.

Kudos to the good folks above taking some NICE deer. The 2022 season looks very good for y'all.
Our archery season opened in Sept, but I was too busy working (job & new roof,) to get some time afield.
Our blackpowder season came in in early Nov. and our rut was getting very active. On election day, I managed a buck & a doe within 15 minutes of each other. (We are allowed either sex all of that 2 week season.)
Our firearm season opened just before Thanksgiving,, and at the same time, we had a 2 week either sex portion. And the entire gun season goes to Jan. Well, I took advantage of the either sex portion and have (2) more does down. I have a single antlered deer tag left,, so,, the next several weeks will be trying to get my last buck. I'll be doing the final butchering of the most recent doe today. So my 2022 season has been pretty good as well.

Looks like I may end the season with one antlerless tag unfilled. I guessed wrong yesterday afternoon and missed my final opportunity to tag out.
Work commitments are building up and I need to be taking care of that. Rain is moving in before I get home so I'm pretty much done for the season.

Modification of my previous post: While out doing chores, I noticed some deer in a small food plot that was easily approached from across the wind so chores and work could wait a while. Using my best non-'native American' skills, I was able to sneak/stalk within range. Everything went well right up to the point where I failed to account for the difference between sight height and bore. PFFT CLANG. Yup, I shot the field cultivator I was using for cover and support. No bounce back or bullet splatter but it did announce my presence to the deer. A slight re-alignment and the follow up shot sent the doe into a 100' death run. It doesn't count as a miss if the bullet only travels 6', correct??
Field dressing and loading the carcass didn't take all that long but the 32 miles to drop off and return added 45 minutes yet I was still out the door and on the job by 11AM.
The deer check lady remembered me and confirmed that my family had donated more deer to the food pantry than any other family in the area. I've lost track but the count is at least 10 or 12.
THAT makes me feel good.

Well, my deer season ended a few hours ago. And I ALMOST filled my last buck tag. It was getting late enough to where visibility wouldn't allow a clean shot,, so I started quietly packing up my stuff. I glanced around again,, and lo & behold,, a deer had slipped into the small opening to feed. I thought I might have enough light left,, so I slipped myself back in position. Using my top quality binoculars,, I saw it was a buck. So, I switched to my handgun, with a scope. Yet,, in my scope,, I could not get a clear, ethical clean shot. Too dim.
So I sat & watched him feed for about 15 minutes,, before he slipped off. I sat for about another 10 minutes quietly,, so as to not disturb things,, and slipped out. The moon was coming up & lit things up to where I could see even better than I had 15 minutes before.
Well, he's seed for next year!
Now,, back to work,,, UUGGHH!!!!!!
