Are people really paying over a grand for Winchester 94s? :shock:

I get sick when I think of all the 94's, I could have purchased cheap through the years. However, they were a good rifle about a 100 years ago, but I would not pay that much for one today.

The last factory new 94 I bought was an AE in 7x30 Waters BEFORE the had the frame/side mounted safety. Frankly I wouldn't buy a new with a tang mounted safety any more than the side/recievr mounted safety. I figure that they didn't need a safety for 100 years or so and I grew up with then and so why bother.

That said, in original 94s short rifles are pretty rare. You could start with a beater 94 and have a "new" short rifle made but you would have at least $1000 in it before you were. I guess if you can live with the safety it would be cheaper and easier just to buy a new one if you needed/wanted a 94 short rifle.

Heck the first new #1 I bought was $235. What's MSRP now?? I think it's over $1200. So maybe 94s are in fact $1000 rifles new in today's dollars.

I recall them announcing the end of the model 94 and 70 rifles and moving other production to Japan. Then I saw them reintroducing them at premium prices. I guess I assumed wrongly that since they were now so high priced, at least they were making them in the US again.

I believe they are made by Miroku, who also make a lot of Brownings these days. I have a Winchester 1886 Take Down made by them, and I have to admit, they do an excellent job. I believe the Winchester Model 70 is now made by FN.

yup,miruko make great firearms, but i do not want my leverguns made by them.

I was happy to get one of the last Win 94 AE Legacy rifles at a reasonable price. There for a while I thought Marlin lever-actions were going away also but there are now some new ones coming out, but I still don't see any new pistol caliber guns from either of them.

Have you seen the new remlins? They look like crap compared to my older model. 336. The new miroku 94s are far superior to the stuff that was coming out of the winchester plant in the early 2000s. I picked up a new 94miroku in a rifle and the fit and finish is great! The one i picked up is serial number 10. I have 9 other 94s and the 9422's some models dating back to 1912 as well as model. 64 and I have been so impressed that I have laid away a large loop model 92 in 45 colt. I drive a Dodge and i like my wifes Honda to! IMHO S.A.

I have an 1886 and 3 1895's that are Mikouru guns, I'd buy another in a minute. But the 94 is covered in my safe with a 30-30 carbine and a 38-55 26" round barrelled rifle.

Hi,

If it's a philosophical argument one has about a Japanese made 94, or any levergun for that matter, then don't consider this one. Simple. But if it's fit, finish and overall quality that's worrisome, 35 yrs or so of experience w/ Browning and other Miroku built guns tells me they'll prove superior to any US-made 94.

I think Winchester took the wrong path w/ this 94, though, by introducing a "fancy" model first, instead of a workhorse in the $500-$750 range. I'd pay that for a new version of the "barely shot if it was at all", Plain Jane, 1976 built top eject, no safety, gun that cost me $200 "way back when." Combine the "No Longer Made in the USA" stamp w/ the rather high price tag, though, and it's quite offsetting. Even if it IS pretty!

I have my Grandfathers Mdl 94 saddle carbine, made in 1924, took my first deer with it in 1965, lives in the safe now, would not take any amount of money for it, last thing I ever got from him, I take it out once and a while and hold it, the memories it brings back are incredible. I plan on giving it to my oldest Grandson in a few years if he shows the ability to appreciate what it is and represents, and understands that it is a family heirloom, not to shot any more but to be treasured.

Don't forget...our dollar isn't worth as much today as it was 10 years ago!! :shock: :roll:
Of course everything is going to go up.
And when you put it in that context, why aren't the common variation O.M. Single-Sixes $500+ today??

I have an early 80's vintage Trapper I bought new.Would not sell for many hundreds of dollars.
Also 9422.Paid $500 a couple of years ago.
