Where the debris meets the sea
We recently got a box of 1976 Speer "Special Agent..Lawman special" loaded ammo out of a house while cleaning out after a death. They have been in a dresser drawer, unopened since 76...they are semi jacketed hollow points and I looked them all over well .... they seem to be fine...no discoloration or visible problems...I would think they would be fine to shoot but I've not shot any 110 grain 38's (these are not +P)....anyone have any comments? I shoot a GP100 that is chambered for 38 special only...but I think it's the standard GP100 platform but just chambered for 38 special.

Thanks for any comments or experiences.

I'm sure it would be ok to shoot. I have reloads almost that old and would shoot them in a heartbeat. FWIW: I think it would be cool to just hang onto it. If not, there's a pretty good market for older ammo. I'd like to just see a pic of it if you "do" pics

Any velocity data on the box? Those might be a little hotter than normal as they say 'lawman'. They would be fine in a GP-100 38special. :D

I remember the old "Super Vel's" in 110 gr JHP. They would tear through a car door like a Kleenex box!

Wonder how different these are from the 110gr +P Hornady Critical Defense in 38spl?

I have some of those and out of my J Frame Smith (357mag) they are quite accurate, little recoil.

I'm sure they are safe to shoot in a GP100. Not sure about collectability if any exists.

got a feeling this would have been the wrong ammo for the little Saturday Night Special my late Mother in Law had purchased it to shoot in....the gun is one of the infamous RG-31 snubs with a frame that has it's share of zinc and pot metal as far as I can tell...bbl and cylinder are steel but the guns are not noted for being strong and may even be unsafe. Glad she never even figured out how to load it. I don't think there is any collector value and I'm going to shoot it in the GP next trip to the range...more 38 brass...just what I need.

Thanks for the comments and replies.

Am sure they'd be safe in a GP of any chamber. Also think that in the CCI/Speer plastic box, not gonna be a collectable in our lifetime. stevemb
