I own the 10-22 TD which I've got in a Magpul hunter stock and I've also got the backpacker stock.
I've recently added all the usual upgrades

BX trigger group
SBI bolt
SS pins etc etc

I'm going to build up a second TD to put into the backpacker stock using a Tacsol 16,5 inch barrel
what I'm wondering is how much difference is therein performance from a Ruger 22 receiver to a Tacsol or other third party receiver to justify spending more money on a third party option.
I've never fired an upgraded 10-22 so have no comparison.

Thanks

Welcome to the Forum!

I can't offer any advice about your build,, but I'm sure a few others will eventually chime in with their experiences.

But from what I've observed over the decades is that the Ruger receiver is just fine. Many have lamented the changes made to them a few years back,, but I've not heard of them failing.
And I've shot a few that had 3rd party receivers & such,, and they too performed just fine.

I guess that it may depend upon how well all the 3rd part parts mate up with the Ruger parts. Different manufacturers can have different dimensions.

Sure would love to see the 10/22 offered in synthetic with stainless but in 22 magnum. Hopefully solve the power curve problem of the 22 mag. like Savage did with the A-22M. Sounds great with a 18 inch barrel.

Welcome!

I have Kidd, VQ, and Tactical Innovations, receivers & none of them shoot any better than an original Ruger one.
BUT, they sure look cool!!!

Cheers,

Most users will never exceed the capabilities of the factory OEM receiver. Using an expensive after market receiver just to see that logo probably isn't going to return noticeably increased performance. The only reason I'd buy an aftermarket receiver is to utilize parts on hand and it would be the cheapest alternative I could find. I'd LOVE for someone to come up with an '80%' receiver for the 10-22--I'd buy 5-6 just because.
