10/22 SPC confirmed by Ruger

It's a bit nerve wracking when you buy something without a Letter of Authenticity. This was one of those times where I shelled out the cash without a confirmation from Ruger of its authenticity. The letter came back this weekend as a confirmed SPC, hand checkered, from Ruger. Not a perfect transaction as there was a notch of wood missing on the pistol grip section but still happy with the transaction.

I made a note on the sheet that I was hoping she could confirm it, and as usual she exceeded expectations.

If wanting more / specific info I also attach a note and invite them to call me for my credit card number to cover their time and effort. They have always found the info yet never called for money!

I had one on the list that she had already sent me a letter. I was asking for a confirmation as it was a subscription gun, but the original letter she sent said it went elsewhere. I included $10 for the updated letter. She called me to let me know that the information was correct, per their record, and she was going to refund the extra $10. She couldn't keep it and was going to have to mail me a check. I gave her another serial number so she could send another letter and address the extra money.

I did not specifically ask to confirm checkering, and it came back as plain SP, and I can't tell any difference between yours and the one I have.
Is there an extra step in the lookup? Were not all of them documented? Should I re apply?
Anyway, here's some pics. Let me know what you all think.

That sure looks like factory checkering to me, the problem lies in whether it officially left the factory that way….I know of many Ruger Newport rifles from the past that were checkered after purchase, or unofficially, or on the weekend/during lunch, etc. I have even personally held a Ruger 44 Carbine with exceptional walnut stock and hand checkered AT THE FACTORY in the style of a Winchester. I have seen beautifully stocked 10/22’s with many different checkering designs done by the ladies at the factory for numerous employees. The guys who ran and worked in the wood shop have the best rifle collections!!

I would request an updated letter specifically regarding the factory checkering, and suggest you send some pictures along. Sadly, there is no one left at the factory who understands what was what from the 50’s-80’s, so if the paperwork doesn’t specify it left as a SPC model, it wont letter as such, even if it was done prior to leaving.
