One of my factory 10/22 LR mags has a habit of releasing about 6 rounds and stopping.

Today I took it apart, cleaned it and put it back together. It was VERY cruddy inside but the cleaning didn't seem to help.

Since these are under $20 new, is it time to retire it or does anyone have another idea for a fix?

It's one of half a dozen that roll around in the bottom of the range bag. I suspect it's 10-15 years old and a worn out spring is the culprit.

You can rewind the spring in there and it'll feed better than ever. I've done that to a few. Just take it apart and wind up the spring and set it in the center post with a pair of pliers and put it back together... I've saved a few, even one for a friend that was about to throw his 10/22 away because it jammed a bunch. Now he really likes the gun.

+ 1 with mattsbox99. Pretty easy to rewind the spring and your good for another 15 years!...............Dick

Duh ..... you're right; winding the spring was easy. Thanks gentlemen!

Every 10/22 mag gets a clean and rewind about once every 3 years or so. All 16 of them.
