10/22 Mag Dust Covers - ARE THEY NECESSARY?

Not in my experience... but then I'm too old to low-crawl thru the brush.

Not necessary, but I use them to keep the feed lips from getting banged up (I have 10 10rd mags in a nylon pouch) and to keep everything clean (the mags themselves are grimy after an outing, and I don't want outside dirt getting in to the housing).

New? They've been in existence since at least 2011....maybe longer. Just relaying when I found out about them. Never had a use and with the new ideas, I still don't.

I agree with GasGuzzler, it really depends on the environment you have the mags in. Dirty mags will not perform as well as clean ones so if you are in lots of dust or mud or the like they may come in handy.

Actually I think I know where most of them are... but was just making a point.... one of these would be great if you are playing combat and tape two 25 round mags together... one up and one down or order one of the silly 25bx2 mags... I think they come with one or two.... but for practical use I would just prefer to keep my spare mag out of the dirt... but with hind sight I really can't be too critical because I bought some just because I could... got lots of gun stuff laying around just for that reason.

I agree that they are probably more of a novelty item than "really needed." I just couldn't pass up the "Covered in dust" thought. Thank you for your replies!!!
