10/22 Gift Decisions...

Walked into a local GS this week with my niece. The intent was to buy him a 10/22 and scope it up for some Abert's action in the high Ponderosa tree tops nearby. It was either that of let her have one of mine...

Problem. Immediately we saw my friend had stocked-up on several 10/22. Not new ones mind you.

Choices included:
A very nice walnut blued Deluxe, a few years old with the metal fire control, etc. $200.
A newer-made birch blued International in minty shape. $279.
A NIB Davidson's order stainless International - $315.
A 'boat paddle' stainless model with box circa 1999, but no wear or damage. $289.

I must make this decision; she really liked the laminated Davidson's model.
What would you do?

I would say if you were going in there to buy one for her and she found one she likes... thats the one. I know if you PM me the info on the place it will be short one boat paddle!!

Let's see now. You took you niece into a GS to buy her a 10/22 and she
found one that she likes and she's the one that will be shooting it. It seems
like a no brainer to me.

You don't say how old your niece is but if she's younger, the Internationals might be a little muzzle heavy for her.

I say international from davidson's.

Hard to beat the one-two combo of Ruger's non-warranty guarantee and the lifetime replacement guarantee from davidson's.

Deluxe Walnut---A classic and a smoking deal. Personally I would not have walked out the door without this one in hand!!!

Only shot one time but man they are sweet deal for coinage. swivels in birch stock,checkering,butt pad. Paid $237 each and thought I stole them as hunter 3 pistols are $499 today. If you can find older real stainless finish get it. I would not part with mine less $450 each there not forsale. Walnut delux might be another great gun

I'll agree with the majority here and buy her the gun she likes. She'll be proud of it, use it, show it off to her friends...and that just might bring in more young people to our sport.

One point - how old and how big is she? I have several 10/22's of different configurations, but ended up buying one of their youth 'compact' rifles (barrel 2" shorter and stock/pull about an inch or so less) for my younger grandchildren. It certainly helps when they can comfortably shoulder the rifle, and it's still big enough for an adult to enjoy.

FTR - She is almost 5' tall and has been shooting rimfires since her first tree-rat hunt @ 8 yrs old! She uses a "youth stocked" gun for clays (20 ga Benelli) but the 13.5" LOP is fine for her in rifles.

Yes, she absconded with the laminated stainless Davidson's model. I warned her that those have a habit of morphing into standard carbines if left unused for long. Now she keeps it locked up whenever I'm around...

We will be in the pines for the Abert's 'rats as soon as rifle deer ends here - not a good idea to share the woods with some of those flatlanders!

Must be hard sneaking up on those Squirrel's! They have some crazy big ears compared to the Squirrel's in the Pacific Northwest. :shock:

Good call Mohave. I've never given a 10/22 that wasn't loved by the kid that got it. Actually I've received some myself which I liked too!

I took my two nephews to the range for the day this summer. They're teens, so they were super interested in shooting my AR and Glock.

What did they end up shooting for most of the day? My 10/22. We put so many rounds through it that there was caking of bullet lube around the muzzle.
