I'm an inveterate tinkerer, soooo. I have a near new 10-22 that I bought new 7-8 years ago. It's been shot maybe 500 times but not really as accurate as I expected (compared to other 10-22's I had). I decided I wanted a threaded barrel and checked the cost of having one of my spares threaded-$80-100 plus undetermined wait time. Checking ebay I found I could buy a new threaded barrel for about $100-110 and have it in a week-which I did.
Swap took place last night. I discovered the original barrel v-block was barely tight and the barrel was not what I'd consider tight in the receiver. The replacement barrel required some effort to seat in the receiver-no hammer needed but significant effort with bare hands.
I'm hoping the tighter fit improves the accuracy but weather doesn't look conducive to testing today. A 3 shot function test was perfect so I'm hopeful.

But don't give up on the original barrel. If the V-block was loose, that might account for some slop in accuracy.

Of course if your receiver is too tight for the new barrel. Route that sucker out with a dremmel. (I'M JOKING!!!)

i bought a Green Mountain barrel for my 10/22 a couple months ago and the fit was tight, like yours i didn't need to use a hammer but i did need to use some force to fully seat it. my barrel was a fluted sporter barrel and so far it is doing everything i was hoping for and a bit more. i would just for grins retry your old barrel in there with the V-block properly tightened just to see if there is much difference. only reason to do this though from my stand point is if i was you and knew the V-block had been loose it would kill me wanting to know if it would have helped, even though i was going to replace the barrel anyway.

I did a quick accuracy test today and am satisfied with the swap. Using a 2.5X scope and 2" aiming point stickers isn't conducive to super tight groups but I can safely say the new barrel is as accurate at 65 yards as the original was at 25 yards. 7 of 10 shots in a quarter sized group will do for now.
