i,m starting to work on loads for my 35 whelen with 200-225 gr bullets, i would like to get 2500-2550 fps. i would like to use the whelen for a spot and stalk rifle for deer and bear and have mounted a burris 4x on it for now, maybe later a 1x4 leupold compact. eastbank.

I'd look at the loading data for RL 15 or AA 2520 for some stout loads for bullets like the 225 Sierra or Accubonds. I had a #1A in 35 Whelen and recoil with the above loads was significant. Bob!! :D

I think if you use RL 15, you'll reach a point where your shoulder will tell you that's enough. The Sierra manual has some good loads, as do all of the others. Bob!!

That velocity range should be easy to get with the Whelen. For 200gr bullets that is in the starting load range. I shoot a 358Win w/225s @ 2450 w/ a 20" barrel and that is not a "hot" load. Gun weight is 7# or less. Felt recoil is a personal thing but if you are accustomed to a 30-06 with 180gr bullets or cartridges that recoil at that level it shouldn't be an issue. Recoil velocity will be less.

I can only comment on bullet choice. In my opinion the 225gr Accubond is the best performing bullet out there. I only shot factory ammo with this bullet but was totally satisfied with it's terminal performance and accuracy. Just my two cents....
