But since bicycles are not required to obey traffic lights and such here, the e-bike riders are taking dangerous and severe liberties. Some of these are very fast, and they are all very quiet. They fly up our street and even on our sidewalks, not stopping at intersections at way over the speed limit. I fear a person will step out from next to their car and get clipped by one of these riders.
The other thing is children riding these in traffic. Apparently it's legal to do so, but many of these kids, not yet old enough for a license, are in and out of traffic without a clue.

Wayno, what you described is the same scenario in my neighborhood. Kids on these electric “bikes” that more resemble electric motorcycles to be honest. They don’t have pedals even.

The kids I’ve seen on them clearly aren’t old enough for a driver’s license yet they ride around on the streets. I’m not sure how that’s legal. But sooner or later some kid is going to get hit by a car. Maybe that’s what it will take to get some good hard rules about where those things can be ridden.

Cops have to do something, which they won't. I've seen groups riding like idiots pass LAPD cars with no response from the cops.

But you cna bet the parents of these kids will sue the drivers when their kid is killed.

New Jersey just made it law that they must be registered and the riders must have a license...
Lots of angry parents.
 
Even today .. I was stopped at a yield to allow crossing traffic to enter a freeway on ramp. Out of nowhere an e-bike crossed in front of me so fast there's no way I could tell he was there. Had I been rolling at all I would have hit him, and since bikes always have the right of way here, I would have been at fault.
