Toklat or another SBH?

I would wait a bit. Since you have Super Blackhawks in 44 Mag there is no rush to make a decision now.
The Ruger web page has photos of a short barreled Super Redhawk in 357 that has a conventional styled frame without the extension over the barrel. Who knows if they will use that frame on a future 44 mag.
Personally, I don't think that the Toklat version is all that ugly looking. It's a lot better looking than the Smith X-frame.

In 44 mag a 4.2" Redhawk would do it for me if I was in that area of size & power with a Ruger.
 
For pure target shooting with your existing long-barreled Rugers, I'd go with the 4 5/8" Super Blackhawk, it's more shootable, has that classic SA feel, and pairs perfectly as a compact companion. The Toklat (Ruger Super Redhawk Talo edition) is a great DA bear gun, but you might not like it as much for relaxed range sessions.

I have a Super Blackhawk. My gun buying days are over. But if I wanted/needed another .44 magnum,it would NOT be nothing as ugly as that Toklat. I know,beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Sorry but thats just me.

If you wanted one as a hunting revolver with an optic, there are none better. When you find out how good they are, they stop being ugly.
 
I've said it before, I'll say it again... my palms don't have eyes and they don't care what they're shooting looks like :)

As far as the Super Redhawk (SRH) with the longer barrel goes I think the longer barrel just makes it unwieldy and nose heavy, the Toklat fixes that. My SRH in .480 has been "Toklated" with a shortened slab sided barrel, but the machinist left the scope cuts there :-( Wild West Guns made at least one that had been "Toklated" and also smoothed out the top removing the scope mounts.

I have three 7.5" guns in .44Mag, .454 and .480. I'd like to have them all cut to 6".
 
well fellas, I surprised myself and took a left turn.
I bought a brand new Anaconda, matte finish.
I love the matte look, all business.
After I dry fired it, I was sold.
I decided on a 4.25" barrel, completely out of my lane.
Just went and shot 18 rounds, DA.
Had no time for more.
Still smiling.
Sold my single shot CVA, which was very accurate, but boring.
So now:
A 10.5" SBH .44 magnum
A 9.5" SRH .44 magnum
A 4" Taurus 431 in .44 special
A 4.25" Colt .44 magnum (quite a big boom-flash) 😊
and one set of reloading dies.

One thing though, it was tough ejecting the spent cartridges, is this normal because it's new? Is it because the matte finish inside the cylinder is too rough?
I do have the same problem with the SBH from time to time, depending on the load.
 
My new Anaconda (recent production) had empties drop right out. The Anaconda is very strong so I have to ask what ammo were you shooting?

just went to the range and shot 55 rounds, all flavors.
Had one light strike Winches primer, and I have some A-USA cases that are heavier gauge brass that seem to be the sticking culprits.
 
So you know lots of owners of the new Anaconda have had light primer strikes.
 
I didn't but I do now.
the two today were double action. I don't know why I tried this, but I cycled the rounds again. One went off DA, and the other went off when I tried SA.

Yup, AFAIK they're all happening DA. I only have a few boxes through mine but I expect I'll need a new mainspring.

It's personal. I had an early Redhawk in .44 and shot the pants off of it but since the DA was abysmal and really could only be improved a little bit with a reduced power mainspring before light primer strikes started, I only shot it single action. Some prefer the more svelte looks (as do I) of the Redhawk and like me shot it Single action. The Redhawk was my last Ruger DA until I got my .480

The Super Redhawk (I have one in .480 modded to Toklat specs) is (IMO) a better handling firearm for those like me who shoot primarily double action.
 
interesting that you mention handling in double action. I assume you mean with short barrel revolvers?

I was gonna buy the 8" Anaconda, but a local shop had the 4.25" and after pondering buying another long barrel revolver (my SBH and SRH are both long barrel) I decided to buy the 4.25.

The trigger notwithstanding, the shorty seems easier to shoot in double action.

After practicing DA with the 4" barrel Taurus 431, the shorty Anaconda felt like a heavier version of the Taurus.

I'm surprised to admit that I have finally begun to "like," (maybe even prefer🤔) shooting double action?

The 9.5 SRH with factory springs is certainly a challenge but I have shot it DAO for months.

The Anaconda is a dream to shoot unless I get a "light" strike.

To quote Coach Bobby Bowden:
"The best ability is reliability."
 
If my Anaconda starts getting light strikes I'll get Colt involved and yup as far as the SRH goes I meant the Toklat length barrel as I've never shot or wanted to own the full length version.
