Soccer...Your thoughts? ⚽️

I had to travel through NJ and NY last weekend and all the electronic signs over the turnpike were warning about FIFA and to plan accordingly. I’m so glad I didn’t get caught up in any traffic mess.

The first clue that it's no good is the term Soccer Mom...I'd rather wrassle Bigfoot than debate one o' them.

I did the stand-in soccer parent thing for a girlfriend's daughter back before the turn of the last century and some of those women, Lawdy...

My kids played soccer. The ones that fall down when someone looks at them we used to call European soccer players. They are just trying to get a foul called on the other team. My oldest girl quit playing when she was 12. My younger girl played all the way through high school. Coaches tried to turn her into a mid fielder but she loved defense. Tough girl she would battle. My boy played up until age 10. He was playing for an academy team until I pulled him out because the coach was not developing him. Academy soccer is expensive. Mens soccer boring to me. When my younger daughter played in middle school, high school it was more interesting. Those girls would battle. She was pretty rough but I've seen her come off the field with cleat marks all over her legs & claw marks on her arms.

I played in first grade. Realized it was dumb at 7yo. Played again in 5th grade. It was still dumb. Have had nothing to do with it since.

It seems like a re hashing of the same thing.

A goal on each end. 2 teams going back and forth until the time ends.
I think they are classified as invasion or territory sports .

Soccer, hockey, lacrosse, basketball, etc.

At least American football mixes it up a little. But still the same 2 goals.

Baseball is the only unique major sport. No goals, no random possession changes and no time limit.

Pretty sick of all of it to be honest.

neither of my kids wanted anything to do with Soccer. Our granddaughter however, even though she herself knew that she was only a "B" player, wanted to play for a couple of reasons, 1- she wanted to be part of a team, 2 - as a competitive figure skater it was great conditioning. She earned her Varsity letter, which was cool, but gave up the game right after. But skating is a whole different talent, wow ..... 👏

I will admit that the high level players have some athletic prowess but I find the sport boring. That they get excited and run around in circles when they score to be ridiculous. Imagine if the did that in basketball.

Soccer has become popular for kids in America because you can fell like you're on the team and have no skills. Just run back and forth. Can't do that in baseball or basketball.

Parents like soccer because little talentless Johnny gets to play and their less chance of injury than in American football.

Watching quality soccer games, and that certainly includes any of the World Cup games, is one of only two sports that I watch (the other being the NFL, particularly if the Packers are playing). Soccer is often referred to as "the beautiful game" and I think deservedly so. When my kids were little I coached, but by the time any reached the age of about 12 they were already far better than myself at the game.

Personally, watching major league baseball is, in my opinion, on a par with watching paint dry. Tennis, golf, bowling and some other sports are even worse than baseball. Maybe worst of all is basketball. A game designed for players of 5'8" to 6 feet now being played by 7 footers is a bad joke.

"Never heard of "soccer" when I was a kid... 3rd world country sport"

That quote pretty much sums up how I feel.

I'm not a fan of most of the sports as they are shown or played nowadays. Football, basketball, baseball, etc have all taken on the resemblance of the Roman Empire's gladiator games from centuries ago.

A few elitist types,, put into an arena/stadium, in front of thousands of screaming "fans" to play a game. And today,, there is an obscene amount of money involved to very few. The 'fans" spend the money and worship these players as if they are the only important thing in life.

Golf,, well, at least that game has serious rules about how people dress, act, and play. This includes the fans. But the money involved is still obscene.

Take away the money,, to where the players do it just for the fun of it, w/o any compensation. See what happens to all of the players.

Soccer,,, as noted,, a 3rd world game thing,, that has been thrust upon the USA by the woke types trying to include "others" to feel like they are back in their former home country.

When I was in school,, there were NO soccer teams or any of it played anywhere.

Never heard of "soccer" when I was a kid... 3rd world country spourt

American kids play baseball

Wonder what percentage of MLB players are AMERICAN?

When I was in school (I'm 49) we all played football year around. In a yard, in the street, vacant lot, field, gym, wherever. Odd number of people, someone is QB for both sides.

Not one of us played baseball. No one ever heard of soccer.
