Either live with it or sand it down to fit better.
I have a drum sander on an old drill press It is ideal for inside curves like that.
Only you can decide if you can make it better or if you are likely to ruin it. I’ve personally had both results.
I didn’t realize the match champion frame was different.

I have a match champion, the frame is not different from a regular GP100, I put Lett/Altamont grips on mine.

That’s what I thought. Seems strange these don’t sit flush.

I doubt you'll have any issues with it. if it fits you, and you like it. Great. if the look bothers you,, then by all means,, gently sand away the excess.

I understand what you are saying. The answer is you could return it and buy another and it might fit your revolver better, or it may be worse. I'm pretty sure the grips are supplied by Hogue. I have ordered several wood grips for the GP100 from Hogue and some fit better than other. I think the peg attachment on the GP100 is harder to fit with a wood grip than on a Smith & Wesson revolver. It's easier for them with a rubber grip than with a wood grip. Rubber will stretch and mold itself to the revolver frame where wood will not do that. It's just the way it is.
I just looked at my GP100 that I put a Match Champion grip on (bought from ShopRuger.com) and it doesn't look anything like you pictured. Mine melds right in on the frame with no gaps at all. Picture #3, the center part does not look like it was finished and the extra wood was not removed. Call or email Ruger and send them the pictures and I suspect they will ask for it back and replace it.

I’m okay with the gap aesthetically, provided that it isn’t a functional problem to have that space there. I noticed on the product page on ShopRuger that a handful of others mentioned trouble with fitting the grip

If you can’t get them replaced, either live with it, or modify it.
You know your skill set. If you decide to modify the grips go slow. Maybe try just beveling the sharp edge for a start.
When something is un useable it is easier to take the plunge. I would tell myself I can’t make it worse, might as well try.

I've had good luck modifying wood grips with a Dremell tool with the small sanding drums. Final finishing/sanding by hand. Since you already filed it I doubt it can be returned.

Either something is wrong with the grip or its not seated completely. Properly fit, it won't look anything like that.

Nothing inside stopping it from seating better? Looks like it could go a little higher, maybe?

It seems like the fit is pretty dialed everywhere but that one spot on the underside
I don't think you said where you obtained those grips? I'm sure they are made by Hogue. You have some very good photos and you could contact Hogue and attach these pictures and see what they say.

I think a call to Ruger would be worthwhile, you have some good pictures that you could send to them for review.
Personally I ordered a top of the line grips from Hogue for my GP100 and they fit beautifully. It's too painful to tell the story but I ruined them myself. I bit the bullett and ordered another set of the same grip and it was acceptable but not nearly as nice of fit as the first pair. Grips do vary.
