Sigh, I guess I am.Picky, picky, picky!!
I got one of the ones in .45 long colt. 1st thing I did was toss the factory grips in the trash and put on some Hogue rubber finger grooves. Put a 2x Nikon on it.
Thing is accurate as hell.
I don't load for it but have found Underwood 250gr +p ammo to be super accurate and it puts the hurt on deer.
Funny, I was looking for a .41 at the time and saw this one sitting in a gunshop I don't noramlly go to. They had 2, one was a .44 and this one where the tag was flipped over. They were so busy cuz it was when Obama was gonna take everyone's guns. Place was jammed, phones ringing off the hook. I didn't feel like waiting.
Got in my truck, headed home, figured I would call them and wait on hold while driving home.
20 min later a lady came back on and said it's not a .41 it's a .45 long colt.
Turned around and went back and bought it.

Toklats are nice, but hard to find.I know you weren't asking me, but I'd like to toss my 2 cents in.Rather than an Alaskan, I'd suggest that you consider the Super Redhawk Toklat. It has a 5" slab sided barrel so you gain more velocity over the Alaskan, without the size and weight of the 7.5" SRH. I think it's the Goldilocks.
I ended up getting an Alaskan.454 and a .44 mag Super Blackhawk 10-1/2 in barrel today.
And for good measure I bought a S&W 329 PD Air Lite .44 mag
Was disappointed the factory grips weren’t included, but I just realized these are Ahrends grips and the significance of that.

Nice looking guns , be sure and let us know about the Alaskan .
I have alot of 44's , the casull is a different animal , My XVR handles it easily , I dont know if my wrist could handle the Alaskan .
Platform for me = SRH with 7.5 " barrel , something I could run a few cylinders through , I don't even know if my wrist could take the Hunter . It is an awesome performing cartridge , That Alaskan would make you feel good about yourself in the High country Would it not ? Before I go I would really very much like to say I have always found those Alaskan revolvers to be very attractive and impressive revolvers , we'll talk to you Ladds later .

I wanted to skip over the .44 and go right to .454 but figured I needed to work my way up to it anyways. Plus I want my son to do the same. Definitely going to start him on .45 Colts then .44mag, He may not be up to the .454
I'm super curious about the recoil on the scandium AirLite S&W .44 mag.
They were all used and all priced ok. I was trying to choose just 1 but couldn't even narrow it down to 2. Lol.
A .454 has always been a grail cartridge to me, I remember reading about it's development when I was a kid. It seemed to be outrageously powerful. Still hard for me to believe it has been eclipsed by even more powerful cartridges.

I am so glad that you decided not to over look the 44 , it will become your daily driver so to speak and the casull will be your random walk down thrillseeker road . If I was speaking to a young man wanting to explore the 44 , I would say to him that the two 44's I would start with would be these two , it may be the only two you will ever need . It will save you money trying this and that . Just get my two best 44's right off the bat . Your son can always shoot specials .
I would like to add I shoot double action revolvers way more than single action revolvers these days and I don't see that changing .

I would definitely like a 629, it would go well with my 627 and 617
I don’t see myself daily driving a .44mag anyways .357 has always been my go to. More than powerful enough for my surroundings.

A 12 year old can handle a .44 mag AirLite... Not! Those that are used and priced right are because the owners all have a permanent S&W imprinted on their forehead
Seriously, if you're looking for a short barreled .44 mag, IMO a S&W 629 (42 oz.) or a Ruger Alaskan (45 ounces) would be better choices over an AirLite @ 26 ounces.
My Super Blackhawk @ 3 3/4" is 44 ounces and with full mag loads is a handful and not much fun. With magnums gun weight is your friend.

He's not 12, he is an adult 6'4" and 300lbs. Just not sure about his wrist strength. We will take it slow. Don't want to create a flinch. He may never get past .45 Colt in my Alaskan no shame in that.
The 329 is my project. I have a 340pd that I don't mind shooting.357's out of. A 327 AirLite .357 pug nose that is easy to shoot. Time to experience the 329.

The .44 SBH Hunter is still in production, but the rimfires are not, that might help explain it. There is a .41 that has a starting bid of over $1,500. It just keeps relisting.

It's funny you mention the 41 mag , when I bought the 44 hunters I bought them at the same time , I almost bought the 41 mag too , but I passed , now there's always been a "I should have bought that 41 mag feeling" . It was just under $ 800 at the time .

I might spend too much time on that, and other auction sites...
Part of it is watching for a few "someday" guns, part of it is tracking values of my "collection". I have a short list of firearms I would like to add to the collection eventually, so keeping an eye out for the rare ones and watching the values for the ones that aren't rare.
1. Ruger American Rimfire Target, Model 8368 or 8349
2. Ruger Precision Rifle in .300PRC
3. Milspec Springfield 1903, Winchester 1917, Colt 1911, honestly any milsurp guns from WW1 or WW2.
4. Springfield M1A Loaded in walnut (although there is an undervalued standard that I have been watching for a couple of weeks, I just need to replenish the gun funds).
5. A Blackhawk to match my Ruger/Marlin 1894 SBL in .357 (this is actually waiting for Altamont to do another run of their "silverblack" grips

You have a well thought out game plan . I like it ! ...I like the M1A but only at the right price . I have 308's so I am not desperate .
The 300 PRC , Ammo was non existant the last go- around .
My ability to buy guns was highly restricted because of where I lived . But now I am one of the millions who have fled communism

I am very excited to walk into a gun store and buy whatever I want ,And take it home with me that day . The one I've been watching is just over $1k. I only have one .308 and want to add another.
I am a huge fan of 30 caliber. This is more of a "sometime in the next 2-3 years", since it will be that long before I am on my Montana property and able to shoot 800+ yards anytime I want.
There's an M1A at just north of $1k? I haven't looked at them in 15+ years since i got my NM but I think anything close to $1k should be a pretty low price.

I travel alot maybe our paths will cross in Montana , ...I'll bring a 30 cal , If you like cigars , and german beers , it might be possible we are distant relatives .
List Cost on the standard is $1451, so yeah it is very decently priced. It's used, but does still have the factory box. If it was a similarly discounted "loaded" model, I would already have bought it.
I like cigars and just about the only beer I drink is German!!!
