I shot a .500 Nitro double rifle two times many years ago. It wasn't that bad. A big push rather than a sharp jab. A light .338 Win. Mag. is more uncomfortable to shoot. 3.5" 12 ga. turkey or Dead Coyote loads are as rough as I shoot these days, and mostly avoid those. They are no fun out of my Mossberg 835, but highly effective. With the improvements in patterning technology and chokes they really aren't necessary. A lot of turkey hunters I know are shooting 20 ga. these days.
No desire to shoot a .700 Nitro, nor a .600 for that matter. Might loosen something I don't need loosened.

My worst experience with recoil was when I was about 11 YO. Dad and I were with a group hunting pheasants (I was the bird carrier, a most important member). When we got back to the farm place for coffee and a break, one of the guys asked if I had ever shot a shotgun and did I want to shoot his Browning A5 12 ga. Dad said OK, so I braved it. Knocked me on my a$$ but good. was the high point of the day for everyone but me. When I started hunting a couple of years later, I carried Grandma's 20 ga.

That's a right of passage. I was probably 8 and my son was 7. You must have been a late bloomer.

Mine was with my dad's Winchester Model 12 when I was 8. That full choke 12 gauge was a lot for me then. By the time I was 10 I was winning turkey shoots with it though. He bought it in 1953 when he got home from Korea. I still have it in the safe.

Dad's old 16ga Double would fire both barrels if you pulled the front trigger first. Not all the time but a lot! He shot the back trigger (full choke) first for a long time till it got fixed. I shot a black powder 45-110 with 520 grain bullets a few times. That would beat you up even weighing a hair under 16lbs! I shot a 375 Mag and a 416 Rigby in bolt actions, 458 Win in a Ruger single shot once. Those are enough recoil considering I weighed 160lbs!

I loaded level 3 45-70 loads into a short barrel H&r handi rifle with 405 gr and one of the cowboy steel butt plates added. That was enough. Way too light and short for the load. In videos most people shooting the 700NE lose hold of the gun. For what it costs it seems like a bad move. Also if it stops your heart I would think it jars your head quite violently too. Could be fatal to someone with a brain aneurysm!

I don't remember exactly how old I was when I shot a .600 Nitro on a dare. Twice! I do have a few rifles that hurt. Ruger's #1 in .416 Rigby is one but maybe it's because I'm getting too old to mess with such toys. Still tolerate the .300 Win.Mag. but run like hell away as fast as I can from a .338 Win. Mag. I have two, a post 64 M70 and an M70 Stainless classic and both rifles flat out hurt me. The .375 Taylor is also a handful that hurts at 7.5 pounds.
Most of my hard kickers are at best semi-retired, I only shoot the .35 Whelen just enough to insure it's sighted in for an elk hunt. Same with the 30-06. I just may do all my hunting from now on with a 7x57 Mauser. At my age, 85 Y.O., the chance of a detached retina or worse becomes more and more probable. I'm not gonna gamble with my eyesight, poor as it is.

500, yes. 700, no.
The 500 wasn't bad. I used to shoot 458 Win semi regularly but I no longer have one.
I do remember getting the snot kicked out of me by a Stevens single barrel 20ga when I was much younger and lighter.

My worst recoil experience was with a man portable 20mm AM rifle. It was like being hit by a car. As far as I know I was the only one dumb enough to get behind it.
