Well I guess you made your point. It is true that the older you get, the more you appreciate what you have , and more importantly you realize that these things cannot be replaced easily. I'm sorry, but it is very true that things are definitely not made as they used to be. Especially guns !!!

Dime a dozen? I don't think so. Originally purchased a Single Six with Mag cylinder in 1967 for $78. My oldest requested it as he had the fond memory of me, putting in blanks into it and letting him shoot at some tin cans. I teased him about not being able to hit the broad side of a barn. He was 13 yrs. old at the time. So, I gave it to him. and half my .22 Mag rds. I still had a Rem. 597M rifle that I liked to shoot. I started missing the Single Six though and started looking for another one. I found a used one with the original box I was a week too late and then it was gone. Then I found another one, but it was a New Model going for $400. Since they were getting hard to find in town, I went ahead and bought it. Overpriced, I know, but I really wanted it.
So, dime a dozen? I would be happy to send you a dime, if I could get only one of the older models. I really don't like the higher front sight on my New model.
Oh, my son got a new wrangler and he said, not for me to buy as he preferred the originals as well and he knew I would not like the Wrangler.

I think you did good paying $400 for the gun you have. They are getting harder to find. New ones, forget it in CA. I honestly think they will soon stop making them in favor of the much cheaper to produce and more profitable Wrangler and now also Super Wrangler. That's how things go. In just a tine from now you are going to look at your SS and be very darned happy you have it. When you mention the higher front sight, the Super Single Six, with the adjustable sights, the older I get, the more I like it. It is more robust for sure, and I think Ruger did a great job in making them. Oh, and what your son said, I agree with him !!
 
I gave in and purchased a Super Wrangler yesterday... $223 for the Silver Cerakote model.

I should have it next week, and like many others, I think the 4 5/8" barrel should be Ruger's next model.

You know, one can't buy too much of anything for $223 today. For that price, really, how can you go wrong. Shoot it and have a good time with it !!

Buy it locally? If so, mind telling where? I stopped going to P&B a few years ago but I could return. Have only been there once since the move.

No, on-line.

Will have to pay the LGS $15 for their time to complete the 4473. I did check with them first, but they didn't have the Supers in stock.

I haven't been to P&B in like 7 years, but I was never a fan of theirs anyway. I always got better service and prices in other stores.
 
I went to a gun show in the central valley today. $15 bucks just to walk in and be disappointed. Mostly knives were there and accessories/parts for black plastic type guns and long guns or carbines, whatever you want to call them. Not too many hand guns at all really. And definitely not many revolvers. One table a guy had an old 3 screw single six from early mid 60's in pretty good shape. 6 1/2 barrel with only one cylinder. He also had a new model 5 1/2 barrel that looked like it had been used quite a bit. Both guns had no boxes at all and only the one cylinder. Both were at $600 bucks. Actually priced a little bit higher but said "he could deal!!) I sense they could both be had at $575 maybe our the door. Actually after the waiting period. They were the only single sixes there. Too bad the 3 screw wasn't a 5 1/2 model.......I walked away.
 
$600 bucks? Does that mean $1200?

I paid $less for a slightly used '65 5.5" that needed some help a few years ago. Gave it help. Sold it for $more when I found my boxed, two cylinder '65 with a 6.5" barrel for $slightly more.
 
The old model is so nice. This one wasn't the greatest, but definitely better than the newer model. Those old 3 screws were built so darn well. Beautifully made. I would have jumped more of it were a 5 1/2. Just my individual preference I guess. .....one other table had the gold looking bronze whatever, Wrangler for sale. It was used and he wanted $375 for it !!!! No box, no papers, nothing , and used !! That's the kind of "gun show" this one was. Everything was high !!
 
I just saw on Guns com that they have the silver Super Wrangler for $267.99 in 5 1/2 barrel. Looks nice. I never buy anything on line but they send me their advertising all the time. For that price really, how can you go wrong, and it's a Ruger !!
 
I wanted and held out for the black version, which seems to be the most popular option at the moment. Picked this one up at my LGS for $277 out the door last month. It's proven to be as accurate as any of my Single Sixes, and definitely has a more robust feel than the standard Wrangler.

Very nice. Good price too. I have an early 1985 32 H&R Mag Single Six with the white/ivory looking grips that I think are Eagles that I bought from a local gun shop years ago. I love the look of a blued gun with ivory grips. I call mine my "Little Joe Cartwright" gun it looks like the one he wore on the old Bonanza TV show back in the day.
 
Those Super Wranglers certainly do look nice. Just curious as to how these might affect the used Single-Six for resale prices?
 
In my opinion, when one tries to sell an original Single Six down the road, & someone compares it to a Wrangler or Super Wrangler, it will just make the Single Six MORE valuable. As they say, you can't beat the original. No knock on a Super Wrangler at all, just a fact, in My opinion.
