In my SBH I have loaded a 300 gr from a RCBS GC mould that had the GC portion reamed out of it.I dont have the data book handy but I used 21 to 21.5 gr H110 and was getting 1300 to 1350 fps.Easy extraction. It did convince me that since I wasnt brown bear huntin a 250K is all I need.
With the "38" twist often times a light load wont spin it fast enough. My 94 doesnt shoot 200's moving slow very well.I dont see how a light load with a 300 will do any better.I shoot mostly full power 240 to 250 gr hard cast in mine.
I am in the same boat about hard lube on some of my bullets.Best results will require removing the hard lube.It can be removed by boiling them in water.Pan lubing will work, sorta. You said a bevel base Keith. They sound like run of the mill commercial SWC's.The bevel base is harder to damage...
The brass is just brittle.May not even hurt the cylinder. To be safe I would salvage the bullets and even the powder and use another case.I have even pushed out a lot of live primers and reused them. Some think that is akin to walkin on lit dynomite.BS.
Thanks. A good link with a wealth of information.I have owned a series 180 and a 181 in the past. What I am asking about is the monstrosity on the end of the barrel. The gun was called new.But I know the scope mount did not come from the factory.
