How long can you leave an Old Army cylinder loaded up...

I recall reading something years ago about black powder being like wine; it gets better with age. So, 100 year old black powder (theoretically, if this is true) should be better than when it was made. Have to check that out again.

    Nitre blue pins

Not only did I fire blue some parts on a SBH (this on also got a brass grip frame), I replaced most of the parts on another SBH and a BH (.30 carb) with stainless parts. I bead blasted a couple of rings on a New Vaquero cylinder since I don't have the capability of inlaying gold rings. I have...

    Nitre blue pins

I recently nitre blued the screws, pins, base pin and ejector rod on one of my SBHs. It turned out nice. I don't have a camera and lighting good enough to get a photo that shows the blued parts at the moment. If I can get a decent photo I'll post it.

    Ruger Old Army Question?

Sorry, I no longer have the layout; lost it when hard drive crashed. If I can find some time I'll see if I can draw up the plans again.

    Ruger Old Army Question?

Here's my loading stand: This one is a prototype made with pine. I have made similar stands from oak that has a clip to support the barrel. I did away with the clip on this one. Here's one in oak.

SHOT SHOW report - Lipsey Rugers

I went to SHOT Monday and saw Lipsey's new Rugers. New Model Super Blackhawk (50th Anniversary I think) is very nice with gold bands on the cylinder. Very nice polished deep blue finish. Must have one. Lipsey also has blue and stainless Vaqueros in .44 special. Of course I had to tell them...

    Some of my Rugers

I have been thinking about selling the new Vaquero but if I could get a bird's head grip frame and a shorter barrel for it . . .

    Some of my Rugers

I own five old model Vaqueros (.45 Colt; wish I had one in .44 mag) and one New Model that I bought from my son when he decided to sell it. Don't really care for the new model. It is my understanding that the new model was created for SASS folks who wanted a revolver that was more like a Colt...

    Some of my Rugers

Thanks much. Yep, since I was laid off a couple of years ago I started making display stands for for some firearms (1911s, P-08s, etc.) and in the case of the OA, display/loading stands to generate a little extra income. Do you like the stand with the .30 carb BH? I'm a DIYer. I make Kydex...

    Some of my Rugers

As the date of our graduation from the police academy approached, my class decided we should purchase a gift for our CO. My class decided that we should buy him a firearm. Because I had more firearms experience/knowledge than my classmates, it was decided that I should chose a firearm as a gift...

    Some of my Rugers

Here's the Guns & Ammo magazine cover that was the inspiration for the stainless parts on my Rugers. I had this magazine on 1977 but lost it. I found this one for sale on ebay a few years ago. One thing that I would like to do is jewel the trigger and hammer on mine. I bought my first SBH in...
