Doughboy Mammoth paper caps

Has Anyone seen these before?
There were 2 boxes in my parents' attic when we moved Mom out 2 years ago. I had never seen them and have no recollection of them as a kid.
Each box is a gross, 144 packs.
Very cool, early 1900's, but what could a guy do with them?

I remember a cople of cap guns I had as a kid; one called Long Tom IIRC and the other Big Horn. The Big Horn was a half size replica of the 4 3/4" Colt single action and the Long Tom a half sized clone of the 7 1/2 inch Colt. Both broke open like a Smith & Wesson Schofield and took a circular piece of paper with 6 caps to fit on the cylinder. As flat as those packages are I'm guessing they might be caps designed to fit that type of gun.

I grew up with various cap guns... they were so cool. then again when I got older I realized I could reload empty cartridges with primers and black powder and wadding and that was much more fun.

I remember having a “six shooter” style cap gun that used the more traditional roll caps. I think we had more fun taking a hammer to an entire box of the roll caps. I also remember a maybe Mattel cap revolver that used plastic rings of caps…

This is the stuff dreams were made of.

These caps, we often just hit them with a hammer. If that wasn't enough, we scraped the powder out of them to make fire crackers. And I'd be fibbing if I said we didn't get our fingers burned a time or two. But we had the best things in life all figured out.

We also had a fireworks device sold during the July 4th period,... it was a two-piece hammer that could be pulled apart in the middle to insert one of these caps between two steel inserts. Re-assembled, we'd hit a curb or street with the hammer, the cap would explode, and half the hammer would fly up in the air with feathers on the tail. They actually went pretty high, as jumbo caps had quite a bit of powder.

I wish I could find a photo of such a toy. Haven't seen one in years.

When I was a kid, if it took caps and made loud noise, I had it. Not to mention the homebrew stuff that we came up with. I still remember how my ears rang after hitting a whole roll of caps with a sledgehammer.

I loved the red plastic circle caps. I had a few revolvers that looked quite realistic. This was long before the red tips…

Those sheet caps you found? I still have an old gun that used to fire them. Makes a Bearcat look huge. Load one at a time and bang!

Not a cap pistol, but, my son sent me a pic of a gun he just bought and I told him I wanted it. He is going to get everything I own eventually anyways, so he brought it down to me to take out shooting.
Jennings J-22 LR. works best with Aguila Super Max. I just thought it was "cute"!

So I learned that I should thoroughly read something instead of making a foolish assumption. I glanced at the initial post and moved on thinking these were some type of helmet line for a WW1 style battle helmet. Went back and saw all the reference to cap guns and thought "how does this fit with that" then I actually re-read the initial post and realized that I had proven that "assume" actually means "ass u and me" with that being said, Everyone Have a great day!

We had cap guns where you took the bullet apart and put a little circular cap inside put it back together and when you fired due to a hole in the bullet the smoke came out the barrel. Time out time out I'm reloading.

That Shootin’ Shell Fanner actually sent real plastic bullets out the barrel. Not a tack driver but you could get the “bad guys” 15 feet or so away.

OK, that sucks. I had one of those. I also had a whole collection of Hot Wheels that I sold in 1980. I got about $500 if I remember correctly- now I see some that I distinctly remember going for thousands!

I do still have one of the early Daisy air soft Lugers that takes individual casings from a magazine- the Casings hold the pellet. When you fire it toggles back and ejects the empty casing…
