I've got a no3 223cal with a forend without barrelband. It is a little wider than the regular forend, with the sling swivel screwed into it....I've been fooling with No 1's for a long time, but never paid much attention to No3's, so I need a little help. Is this factory or a replacement? I like the rifle, shoots good, easy to tote, just want to know more about it.. Thank y'all for any help..

AFAIK, ALL factory #3 forend wood has a step-down to a reduced profile, so the barrel band can be seated.

Anything else was done aftermarket, whether it involves installing new/different wood or rshaping the #3 FE ( I once removed the barrel band & re-profiled the wood to an exact match for a #1 AH (Alexander Henry) forend (I had a #1S, that I temporarily removed the FE from, so I could work with them side-by-side).
