Try running otherwise identical loads over a chrono with a light vs firm crimp. Compare standard deviation & extreme spread. You will be enlightened....

(Especially with slow powders)

Hey, Wiley Clapp (he ain't a Redding puppet either) turned me on to the Redding; it's all I use for every revolver cartridge I make. 'Cause I can learn 8)

I use a 'firm' crimp on all cartridges in 44 Magnum. Tested (some get 'firmer' than others).

I have dies from LEE, Lyman, RCBS, Hornady, Dillon, and Redding.

You are correct about Redding dies. I use all Redding dies with the exception of Dillon carbide pistol dies for my two Dillon 550B's. Redding pistol dies never seemed compatible with Dillon presses but are still the finest dies made.
