only powder I know will near fill your case and slow you down is IMR Trail Boss but it's not always the cleanest burning depending what bullets I use,
I use it alot to slow my 44Mag down as slow as a 45colt and for a light kick when I practice at the range and shoot 100 or so at a time, it's easyer to keep it on target.

Yep. Won't get your 1000fps but nice plinking powder. I noted it as accurate in my log.

.44 Special: TB 5.2g, 240g SWC, CCI-300, 756fps, 12 SD, 57 ES (30 shots)

(2400 and "Obsolique" see little use around my bench, in fact the only 2400 I still have on hand is in a Hercules container! )

Bucks .........

Something like this ???

Only about 120 grains left in the can. Just enough to fill a cylinder full of Elmer's favorite load.

Well, now. The only 44 Ruger I have is a 1976 vintage SBH 7 1/2". My 44 Specials are: 2 Turnbull Cowboy Classics 4 3/4, 1 Cimarron Bisley 5 1/2, and a S&W 1950 Target 6 1/2. I started out with 17 gr 2400 after reading Sixguns. Truly a stout load in the 1950, but accurate and flat. However, now I use strictly 7.5 gr. Unique. I have the SBH if I want a lot of blast and 1400 fps. I use strictly Lyman 429421 out of a 4 banger mold, and I have been tumble lubing with liquid Alox. The Unique shoots extremely clean with that load in all the revolvers. I tried Green Dot, 800X, Blue Dot, and AA5. None of them seemed to work better than Unique.
BTW, my load in the SBH is 20 gr. AA9. Howevere, the SBH seems to require a lot more concentration to hold well than the shorter barreled guns.

That has been my experience as well. Same maybe but not better. That could be just my shooting ability though... I've stuck with 7.5g Unique/Universal and occasionally the 17g of 2400....
