WTB Stone crocks (KY)

I know this is way off topic but you never know what you will find so thought I would try. What I am looking for are stone crocks, butterchurns or jugs. I am mostly looking for KY marked examples but if the price is right others are ok also. I am also looking for glass bottles from the Maysville, KY area and Bluelicks stuff. Let me know what you have with a pm or response. This is just the start of another money eating habbit to go with my Rugers. Thanks everyone

Hey,

My wife and I collect stoneware, specifically Red Wing stoneware (crocks, jugs, spittoons, churns, etc.) although we have others (Western, Fort Dodge, etc.) I don't have any with KY markings but will keep an eye out for you. Do you have any of the Paducah, KY marked mini jugs? I see them from time to time...

I've got some Pittsburg Steeler Crocs... :lol: Can't imagine running in a pair of stone ones, a badger would have me for sure!

No I do not have any ot the Pudach, KY ones most of mine are just the brown and whites but I just recently got a nice 8 gallon butter churn gray and cobalt blue from Maysville it is really what got me excited about them. I live 10 miles from Maysville and 7 miles from Bluelicks so I like the local stuff. I will watch for some redwings for you any certain ones you looking for?

I would say you are right about the badgers and yes your Crocs are the most comfortable one I would say.

I use to collect early southern pottery so I know the feel of old hand thrown pottery can be very expensive :shock: been to Maysville several times ,midway' Georgetown. Lexington all over KY. love the old houses & the stone fences--most of my pottery now is family or came from Alabama. GOOD LUCK on the pottery --love it :!: :!: I have seen southern pottery sell from 10 dollars to 85,000 dollars 8)

Ok y'all I'm a newbie here. I have a stone jug, approximately 5 gal in size, that looks like the typical moonshine jug.
How does one tell who made things like this?

It is HARD Ty--harder to find out about some pottery than Rugers :lol: North & south Carolina produced some of the oldest and finest pottery of any states those families migrated to Georgia, Alabama. Mississippi etc. Some pieces made and signed by Dave the Slave from Edgesvillie District SC. brings THOUSANDS of dollars some of his and others in the Smithon. museum--Some of it brings way more than any Ruger gun has sold for --If there is no markings hard to know --if you got it around your area from old estate sale it could have been made close by--any older pottery is worth having --just so many things to consider but fun to find looks good sitting around the house--have made lamps out of jugs etc. they sell a thing to fit a electric bulb to them.I saw a guy pay 15,000 dollars for a Ohio monkey jug used in the field by slaves 8) it was highly decorated and perfect seen other pieces bring 5 thou. to 0ver 80,000 dollars hold on to your pottery :arrow: old
