I have a stainless 45 Colt Ruger Vaquero Birdshead (older full size I think) SN 58-57456. I would like to purchase a stainless bisley gripframe, trigger, and hammer to put on the birdshead. I will consider a blue frame but will need bisley hammer, and trigger also. I successfully took the bisley frame off my 45 New Model Blackhawk SN 47-84698 and put it on the birdshead and it fit nicely and fired nice groups. (I put the birdshead on the 7&1/2 inch New Model Blackhawk and it surprisingly shot nice but looked a little different.) I might would trade or sell the birdshead gripframe, hammer, and trigger after I inspect and install the new parts to make sure it runs and fires nicely. I would rather purchase and then resell after installation and firing. The New Model Bisley fit nicely on the Vaquero Birdshead but the Birdshead needed a little fitting but worked and shot well on the New Model. I also have a Talo 3.75 New Model Super Blackhawk 44 mag 87- series I would like to do the same gripframe swap on as above but the SBH 44 mag has more of a brushed satin looking finish so maybe would buy a blue frame that would work and keep my original. I will need some of you guys guidance on what will and will not work.

Sounds like you have a handle on it. When you're swapping between guns of similar vintage, fitting is minimal as you experienced. Used parts is preferred since they are already fit and finished. New parts are easier to get but come pretty rough and oversize.

If you get a stainless (or blue) Bisley GF for the SBH, you can duplicate the satin finish with a Scotchbrite scrub pad pretty easily.

Sometimes it's easier just to swap guns with someone or sell and rebuy, if the configuration you want was ever produced.
 
Thanks Mr Jim. I like the shorter 3.75 (have 2) & 4&5/8 (have 2) even though I have 5 with 7&12 inch barrels. The Birdshead shoots very accurately to POA and also shot to POA with the Bisley frame. I also had Hogleg Smith do the freewheel, hammer, and trigger job on the Birdshead. I can't part with a fixed sight POA shooter. Two 4&5/8 have Bisley frame and 2 of the 7&1/2 have Bisley frame. I just like that Bisley the best. I have priced having the 2 with 7&1/2 inch cut back to 3.75 and I am considering that. Thanks for the advice and the Scotchbrite info. I will need to remember that. I figured they gripframes would be hard to find but thought I would put it out there. Thanks again Mr Jim
