Can buy this for $175. It was in the same room as a fire. I want it for a action for a 444 build. Would you trust it?

I would trust it for myself if the wood on it did not actually burn. I would think that for the metal to get hot enough to alter the hardness, the wood would have to actually be burned to some degree. In the picture, it looks more like smoke damage.

Yes and he said the forend was there but was lost by his son after the fact

Im gonna try it

Hope to get it tonight. It has a 25/06 bull barrel on it now. I will list that for sale.

There's not alot of burn to the stock so temps weren't that hot. It's singed not ashen. All springs would need to be replaced of course but other than that, clean up the metal and have at it.

Getting excited. Supposed to get tonight. Hope guy dont change his mind!!

This is the closest ive come to having a donor action for my 444 build yet. Ha

I bought it. Wood was charred pretty good. Gonna contact some shops and see if they can check the hardness for me. Didnt pay 175 so i feel it was worth the chance. We'll see

How are the springs? If they have lost power/springiness then I would not trust the action.

And just because the springs were good doesn't mean I would trust it. You are wise to get it tested.

I called them today. May send it in. Gonna see if anyone local can test it. If not then i'll send it back

Long time back, I bought a mini 14 action that had been salvage from sunken boat. I called about parts that required factory installation (gas block). while they would not sell the parts, they offered a very good discount on purchasing a new one if I sent it back. However, I keep the action and made/found what I needed
