I guess some times we just read what we read ,,,,,, differently.

Personally I never viewed the split receiver guns, like the 39 or Remington model 12 .22 as a true take down other than for cleaning kind of takedown.
Reassembling can be too finicky for fast action and have never seen either used that way for backpackin and such.

Talk about thread drift and soapbox proclamations.
Say the words 22 levergun and it just seem requires opinions on possible futures of the model 39.
Even if the road has been traveled so many times.
I guess some of Y'all just want to talk (argue) about what you want to talk (argue) about.

He was asking if the Model 96 (which is very much like a 10-22) could be made as a takedown like a 10-22.
Probably could if Ruger would make the 96 again.

He was? That's not what his post says. His post mentions the 39A and Ruger making the 10/22 a take down. He also said it would be cool if Ruger did so with their lever action 22 (that never took off like the 39A). Don't see where he asked if it could be done ... just that it should. Then people were eager to tell him it's not needed as a 39A is a better gun that is already a take down.

My post was just a conversation starter. I was enjoying both paths the conversation took.

Point taken. Definitely different but the same family, with the letter suffix being generational for the most part, or descriptive of the guns configuration.

The 39a is also different than the 39AS but still the same family.

On the subject of fantasy leverguns, I would get in line for a walnut stocked 96/22 in .22LR with a threaded barrel. No need or desire for it to be a takedown. I think they're 99% novelty.

But I think as boomers die off, many 39A's will change hands and prices will become soft, as younger buyers usually don't identify with cowboys and most prefer black guns.

Unfortunately, I think this will be the case with many guns of different brands... levers, SA and DA revolvers, etc.
