a SR9 that appears unfired?

Local store bought one from an individual. Stainless slide, 330-06xxx serial number and has the "blade" in the trigger so I assume that means it did go back to Ruger for the recall trigger group fix. Everything is there except the fired case and envelope. There's also three mags so I suspect they got a free mag when it was sent back.

Would you be afraid of taking a chance on this gun if you could get it for $350.00?

Thanks WAYNO. New SR9's around these parts bring in the $425.00 range. Of course, he's got a LE trade-in Smith 5906 in average condition I can likely pick up for $250.00 too.

I'd get the Ruger for $350 8)

hittman, you might ask for permission to dry fire it (with the mag IN) and if you like the trigger, I wouldn't hesitate. The only reason I say to check the trigger is something that if you hate, you won't enjoy. Personally mine wasn't bad out of the box, and has gotten quite a bit better with use.

The 5906 is a great gun, and that's a nice price for it. To this day I still haven't seen ANY 9mm from anybody I liked any better than the Third Generation Smith 39/59 series.

Cuz you ain't seen the 69's!
I like them better than the more common 59's personally.

For the OP, if the 59 is in nice shape, jump on it.

Hey gatorhugger ~

The 59 is a trade-in LE gun so.....there's the usual bumps and bruises along with some dings in the grips. It fires and functions just fine though.

Never had a Smith semi-auto and lean way heavier toward the wheel guns but ..... you never know ....

My 5906 is incredibly smooth in DA. I have a number of DA revolvers that aren't as smooth (and some that are).

If it is as described, I wouldn't have any qualms buying it. SR9's are, IMO, pretty good.

I do have to go along with Revhigh. The CZ75 would be a better choice if the prices were close enough for you budget.

on edit
I now remember it was the 659 - that had the recall - Sorry

There was a recall on the 5906 several years ago - If you buy it you might want to check with S&W to ensure it has been done

There's big price differences, depending on where you are.

I paid $389 for my new SR9, so buying a used, but unfired one for $350, may not be a huge savings.

But, if you'd have to pay $425 for a new one, where you are... Then $350, including a third magazine, for an unfired used one is a little more reasonable, and I do understand that.

WAYNO.

No brainer. 5906 that's probly been "carried much, shot little."

No offense to forum's namesake but...well... IT'S a SMITH & FREAKIN' WESSON!

This did turn out to be a no-brainer in favor of the S&W.

The used SR9 ended up priced at $390.00 plus tax. A SR9c, new, is $479.00 plus tax here. If I was to shell out over $500.00 (including tax) for a 9MM, I think I'd get one of Rev's CZ75's, a Sig or Kahr.

I'd tend to agree about the S&W thing on a wheelgun but we're talking auto's
BIG difference IMO :?:

You are correct. BIG difference. Used plastic Ruger (in a model that seems to be having "issues") at "new" price or stainless Smith for less $$.
