Hello, I recently purchased a Ruger Security Six revolver and truly enjoy shooting the gun. The only gripe I have with it are the slim OEM service grips that came with the gun. I would like to purchase factory/oem ruger target grips for it so I can better handle the gun. From reading this forum I understand they are nearly impossible to find. So I am looking for aftermarket wood target grips for the gun and have seen many different offerings out there but I am not sure which to go with. Does anyone have any recommendations based upon personal experience/purchase of where to find what I am looking for? It would be nice to find something reasonably priced (less than $100) if possible.

I am sure the experts in this forum with have plenty of great suggestions.

Thank you!

First, Welcome to the forum. You'll find a lot of folks really like the Security Six series revolvers. Me, I am somewhat of a collector of them.

Second, is your Security Six a low back frame (s/n starts with 150-) or a high back frame (s/n starts with 151- and above)?

If a "low back frame" search for Jay Scott or Herrets grips on Gunbroker or eBay or the web. Or search the web for "Ruger Security Six low back grips"

For the Ruger OEM "Target" grips for the high back frame try Gunbroker. Look under the Security Six listings for "parts" or grips. Also check eBay, many times there are OEM grips and also after market target style grips there. I have gotten some nice larger grips for my Ruger double actions that were made from a place out of Thailand off eBay at very reasonable prices. Also search the web for "Ruger Security Six high back grips" (and variations of that like - Ruger Security Six OEM Target grips)

Welcome to the forum.
Unless your gun has the 150- serial number prefix the grips you're looking for are plentiful and not expensive.
Once you meet the requirements you can use the Classified section and put a WTB ad there.

Serial # begins with #158 - so need high back frame?

There are a lot of good options for the high back frame, in fact most Security Six grips you'll come across are for the high back frame. It's the 150 series frame that's hard to find grips for. Ebay is a good place to look for grips. I know a guy that makes a reproduction of the oem target grips but they're not wood they're made out of resin. I have a pair and they're pretty good, right there with any wood grips I've tried and they cost much less. About $40 where a set of the originals will probably set you back around $75+.

This is a set of target grips of the "coke" profile I made for a client earlier this year. Unfortunately, they don't quite fall within the $100 parameter

Would you entertain making another set? What is the price if you don't mind me asking.

I am making another set tight now for a Security Six. These are $750 and custom fit to the clients gun and custom made to the thickness and contour that the client requests. I do not make grips for inventory to sell, only fit to a customers specific gun. This is the set I am currently working.

There's late model blued 4 inch Security with those grips on Gunbroker right now for $500. If I hadn't just gone one a spree with the 3 inch models I would've got immediately. It's in great condition too, identical to the one on the ad. It's already a steal at that price but with those particular grips it's a really good deal.

OP- check out Texas Grips as well, they'll cost a little more (about $120) but they're very good grips, they handle extremely well. I actually have a pair of them for sale but they're for the 150 series guns. They make em for the high back frame too.

Texas Grips as noted above makes very nice grips. If you want the original factory ones look on the auction sites as noted. There are several styles available besides the factory ones like the ones shown on my Security Six. I'm not sure of the maker but they are VERY comfortable.
And welcome to the Forum !

Probably due to the difference in the grip "frame". The GP-100 is a stud type grip frame, different from a "typical" handgun grip frame (like what's on a Security Six or other DA revolver manufacturer or like on a single action handgun).
