Wolff Recoil Spring...Fitment Needed for Mini 14?

It doesn't say it on the package but the new spring is at least 2.5" longer than the old spring. Even if I could get it in there as is, it would definitely bottom out before the bolt can travel fully.

So the question is...should it require a trim? and, if so, do I trim for length or equal number of coils (the new spring has a tad less coils per inch than the old one).

I should mention that it's a 852 series 5.56 Rancher model.

Wolff's QC aint allways what it should be.
The mere fact that the spring in question doesn't fit should tell you something.
Yeah, you can cut it to fit, but how are you going to determine it's spring rate afterwards?....and as far as that goes, how do you know what it should be?

And BTW, adding a stronger recoil spring is going to increase the force of the slides impact against your gas block every time the action cycles.
Me personaly, I wouldn't consider that to be a good thing.....just sayin'.

Agree completely. Stronger recoil spring doesn't really solve anything and in some respects, will only make it worse. As I've said in several other threads, reduced size gas bushings will go MUCH further in taming down recoil force and smoothness.

Just a suggestion, but you might want to go ahead and see if you can install it. New recoil springs are commonly longer than old, designed to be that way so they will be of proper length once they take a set.

Thanks for the input everyone.

I ordered this spring on a whim as I was ordering a few other parts so it was more of an experiment to see if it helped with a FTE issue I'm having with the mini than anything else.

the reason I suspected fitment might be required was because this part is labeled for basically the full range of minis including the 30.

I'll call Wolff and see what they have to say.
