I did the "free upgrade" yesterday/last night. Now I can't find my scanner/printer control. Daughter was assisting by text messaging another co-worker which added several levels of frustration and wasted time. It appears I lost some pictures or just can't find them and until further assistance cannot scan and print or attach forms to email. I'll have to figure this out soon as it's important to have this for work. All the other contact/connection stuff was retained or at least the stuff I've checked is still there.

May I suggest the book "Windows 10 for Dummies?" I hate the fact that Microsoft finds a halfway stable operating system then "updates" it to nearly unusable only to issue a "new" barely tested OS.

I've got Windows PRO 7 and its gonna STAY on my laptop !!!
I always was partial to XP but once again they 'upgraded'. I wasn't thrilled with 10 when it came out but now, after much 'playing around', I have learned to like; which means that they will probably bring out another new and improved version as 15 or some such nonsense.

I still have Windows 8.1 and I have no need to do any updates or to upgrade to Windows 10. I guess when I need a new computer I will have to go to 10. ...or heck maybe it will be Windows 12 by then.

Have the end users do the final testing, and once there are very few

I bought a Windows 10 laptop in 2015, it was right after I got my iPhone 6. It wasn’t long before I realized what the iPhone was capable of and bought an iPad. The only time my laptop sees the light of day is when I have to look up parts from home as Mopar’s parts catalog only works on Windows. I could easily live with just an iPad, iPhone, and a wireless printer. iCloud supplies all the backup I need for free and for .99 a month you get more backups and storage than you’ll ever need. Contacts and photos are on all your devices, IOS is secure and you get the latest software from Apple every year when it comes out(usually 5 years worth). Those of you who prefer Android can do the same using Google Photos and such.

You should always back up everything including pictures before you do any updating on a computer. Actually you should do that quite often whether you're updating or not if you don't want to lose anything because that's just the nature of computers.
I have a back up for my back up because even the back up can get screwed up.
I don't trust any outside source like icloud or any of those places for my personal information. I keep my own info private.

Lower left of the screen should have the Windows logo....
right click on it and you will/should see a panel open above
it. Up a bit click on "settings" when that opens select "devices"
on the left you will see "printers" click it and it should show
your printer....if not click "add a printer" and re set it up.
You may have to go on line and reload the software
from the printers website.

I use windows 8 too, but I keep the updates current. It’s pretty stable so I’m not going to 10. How you got Windows 10 for free I don’t know. It is $139 on Microsoft’s website! I will buy another iPad or computer before I pay that! So how is Linux Mint installed? Is it free?

I fully believe Windows 10 is far more stable than previous versions of Windows. It’s been out for what, 3 years at least, maybe longer? And while annoying, the upgrades do “help.”
