Why "Big Bore"?

I own a Bearman Big Bore Guardian .22 WMR Guardian derringer- the one shown in my avatar. Bearman took over Colt, one of the "Ring Of Fire" crappy gun makers. I have done enough work and upgrades to make it at least a decent office gun. My question is: Why do they call it a Big Bore when it is only a .22 WMR ?

While absolutely true, these days when someone hears "harrier", they mostly think of the military jet. Hence, the only connection to a firearm that I can think of.

It's possible it being called a big bore is maybe it's based on a large framework compared to what a small bore is from the company, so maybe with this frame you can change out barrels to 380, 9mm, 32apc and maybe others.

I do have a big bore derringer, well more like a medium bore that's a 38spl w/32 s&w long, or something with my Cimarron (Davis/Cobra/Cimarron and now Bear). It's quite a handful and the wrist regrets it everytime I look at it.

What "upgrades" have you made?

There was a reason I got it so cheap. It's a Bond knock off. I just gave it a new trigger ( off of a Bond partial) with a much easier pull ( I don't remember the poundage) and fixed the safety so it actually worked. This was important for both carrying ( which I switched out of within a month) and keeping it loaded in my office. I should also mention that it's made out of that Zamak crap. It's worth what little I paid for it- barely. The only thing I like about it is how it fits in my hand. Though I have a a couple, derringers in general are not my favorites. Just handy for small spaces as backups.

It’s actually a good looking little gun.

I have wanted a Derringer forever Pretty neat, but not practical at all. I could get one to have fun with, but I’d end up carrying it. I don’t want to handicap myself.

Practically a s&w 351C holds 7 .22WMR that’s a staggering 3.5 times the capacity of a Derringer in a pocket size. But I still like derringers.

My son has a .45/.410 Bond derringer. Talk about a hand killer.....

You nailed it. I was using it for an ankle gun, but even that was uncomfortable. Now I have a little NAA .22 WMR,- half the weight and 5 shots instead of 2. Also, this has notches between chambers for a hammer rest. No need to leave one empty for safety. It fits in an arm clip as well/. HUGE improvement. I do have fun shooting the derringers though.

360 BUCKHAMMER takes the cake for the most ridiculous name if you ask me. The young long-haired guy at the gun store was talking it up and telling me about the massive recoil and power it had. I laughed and said lets go shoot my 416 Rigby Ruger #1 and see what you think.

Me too on the Sig Legion, but that 226 has a fine trigger and is spooky accurate.
