Where can I find "Bob's list"?

Bob's list is a protected, private document and not available to the public. As you may or may not know, Bob is an experienced .357 collector who years ago began taking notes on the 357's that he came across. His concern was that guns were being tinkered with to make them something they were not. "Screw driver variations." Parts were being swapped to make them variations that were not shipped that way in an attempt to increase the value. TG
 
I'm the "gatekeeper" of The List. Bob is still The Boss.

As guns are observed here and elsewhere and/or reported to us, we enter them on The List. Please note that we only deal with the Old Model .357 Blackhawks.

We record the serial number, barrel length, "type" as far as it can be determined, original shipped configuration & ship date if available, and the occasional "special" feature. We do not keep/record any personal information like name, e-mail addy, etc.

While we do not claim that any particular gun is absolutely "correct" as listed, The List provides a pretty reliable picture of what was being shipped at any particular time between late 1955 and early 1973, in other words the life span of all the "three-screw" .357 Blackhawks.

We currently have over 3000 guns recorded.

How this works is, y'all ask questions and I give you the best answer I can. We prefer open-posted questions here so we can all share in the discussion. Please realize that I actually have a life away from all this (yes, I really do), so I may not get to your questions immediately. Please post your questions in the "Ruger and Other Firearm Collecting" forum, as that's where I keep a pretty close watch.

Also be aware that Bob has the final word on all things list-related. I am just the clerk, although the subject matter enthralls me no end . . . that's why I agreed to get involved when Bob asked me to.

I may 'add' that in the beginning, MOST of Bobs "observations, were just that , what he saw, observed or was brought to him, not just "reported" ...of course, the shipping dates are what others almost have to"report" as Bob does not call it in or ask for any letter as to verification....so quite "informal"?? a "running commentary" of notes and observations,,,,,someday ,maybe someone will figure it all out ?? find trends??
I see it as a lot of work and of course a thankless task, oh and by the way, NO names in conjuction with the numbers, and I agree, bottom line "personal & private"............kinda like Bob !! :wink:

So, are you interested in the details of any old 357 flattop Blackhawk, or does it have to be a rare variation to be added to your database?

Like he said . . . any and all "three-screw" .357 Blackhawks.

Right now The List shows about half "flattops" and half "protected sight" models.

They are all interesting to some of us.

I'm confused and a bit slow...comes with old age....I recently acquired a 357 Old Model that is unconverted...in a prior post someone was asking about "micro sights" which this does not have so it is appartnetly not a transitiion model...Here is the description of the gun..if someone needs further info please p/m me and I'll see what I can do...if you click on the thumbnails they will enlarge.

Ruger Old Model Blackhawk 357 Magnum...4 5/8"bbl....Vintage is 1965..s/n is 697xx. Less than 50 total rounds fired...no box or papers. Like to know any info that anyone has..or if you want it for the Bob's List..here it is...if you need the last 2 numbers of the s/n...let me know and I'll send them along with any other info you might need.....thanks, opos




 
Yes, guns in that range have plain rear sights. RENE says "many thouands made".

I've owned this gun for quite a long time. The box is kinda rough. But otherwise not too shabby.

Just curious, is it on Bob's list?

It is indeed on The List. Notes indicate it was "discovered" here on RugerForum within the last couple of years.

Probably shipped around mid-1972.

Nice convertible package. Thanks for sharing.

I must of submitted the info & then forgot it. I'm getting old & forgetful. But I know that I have owned it for 10 years or so (I think).....

Don't really know....just a guess that it was in a buy back then decommissioned :cry: :cry: :cry: I paid $83 dollars for it plus shipping and my FFL....I thought it deserved a proper resting place....RR.
 
Seeing that poor #148 makes me want to whip the be-geebees outta somebody. That there is a CRIME!!!!!!!!!! I had flashbacks about a certain Red Eagle we heard about a few years ago,,,!
 
Rod, ship it to Alan Harton and I bet he can rebuild the top of the frame then you can swap a different gripframe onto it. I have seen pictures of guns that had the top strap blown apart and Alan rebuilt them. Shoot, I sent him 357 max and it came back with a Freedom Arms top strap rebuild that is a perfect match for a genuine FA.
 
Well I have a young friend that once worked for me that happens to be a pipe fitter at the local nuclear plant.....let's just say he welds better than I can run a caulk gun.....he is slightly cocky and when they make them take a welding test he always asks to go first....so the others can see how it is done.....they then take his pass into the office so they can try and find something to Rosie O'Donnell about....but they never can....we nick named him the "LEGEND"....we tell him only in his mind :lol: :lol: :lol: he said he is pretty sure he can "FIX IT".....RR.
 
hey boys and girls, IF the gun was on a "buy back and destroyed", that is not "decommisioned, it is "destroyed" and reported to ATF, and we happen to know of a certain Sgt from our local PD went to jail for letting guns that were "destroyed"??? back on the street........................one of the reasons the sheriffs office would NOT allow any mention or stuff get out on THAT "red eagle" that no one can talk about, and that frame/receiver WAS 'destroyed' AND their jobs are "are on the line"....END of subject 8) :roll:

a "blow up", or re work, rebuilt (custom) is NOT the same thing...... :wink:
 
Well Dan, ....I bought it from an FFL holder who sent it to my FFL holder.....nothing "BACK DOOR" here :? :? :?

I think when I get done it will be pretty nice....I know a guy that will do some "scratching" on it for me :lol: :lol: :lol: RR.

IF your guy decides not to give it a try I'm sure Alan Harton could fix it. If you case color it you would never know it was welded.....really he is that good.

Good luck with it it will make a nice shooter.
