I worked in a gun shop for over three years and most new handguns that we unpacked were dirty from factory test-firing. Glocks and Colts were probably the cleanest handguns we received. Ruger and S&W guns were the dirtiest. I wouldn't worry about a new gun being dirty but check it for wear. If you don't trust the seller don't buy the gun. His logbook will indicate when he received it and where it came from, a distributor or an individual, if he'll let you examine it.
