What's your Favorite Western??

Unfortuneately they don't make nearly enough, and because of that I suspect there will be a lot of similar answers. I tend to favor the more current movies myself.

I think Tombstone is probably one of the best done westerns out there. They did a good job with the acting, period correct dress, guns, horses, building and such, but mostly they got the story right. Most of the Wyatt Earps stories center on the OK Corral. I'm glad this one didin't. I found this and thought it was interesting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBzNOpIn7Cc

It's hard to discount Lonesome Dove, what a great telling of a wonderful story, but it drug in a lot of places.

I also liked Unforgiven, it's a little way down the line, but I watch it everytime it comes on.

Kinda like askin' who your favorite child is.... I have too many to list. I like westerns with John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Tom Selleck and Jimmy Stewart in the title role. There are lots of others I like as well. I think The Searchers, Outlaw Josey Wales, and Quigley Down Under are hard to pass up..... Can't really nail down a standout favorite.

The Searchers, Lonesome Dove, The Unforgiven, Quigley Down Under are some. As mentioned, Tombstone was most like what truly happen to the Earps while there. I had the good fortune to visit Tombstone and had the opportunity to see where much of it all occurred.

Favorite is most probably the original Magnificent Seven with Yul Brynner and Steve McQueen.
So many others deserve mention... I really like Lawman with Burt Lancaster.
Also The Shootist with John Wayne.
Dozens of others as well...big fan of Western movies.

Same here. From what I have watched Josey Wales was also Clint's favorite. If interested watch some of the videos of the making of Josey

Tom Selleck goes out of his way to make everything period correct.

"The Outlaw Josey Wales", has been my favorite for many years but I really like those movies too. I guess with me they would be tied for second place.

It's impossible to pick one single 'favorite'. One western that I cannot seem to become tired of is "How The West Was Won". What a magnificent piece of work.

"The 3:10 to Yuma" (original) and "High Noon" are faves. A real sleeper is "The Fastest Gun Alive" from 1956. "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" is hard to beat.

My two favorites but I enjoy them all!

1. Tombstone ( it plays continuously on the big screen television in the Crystal Palace Saloon in Tombstone, AZ ).

2. Billy The Kid 1930 version starring Johnny Mack Brown as the Kid and Wallace Beery as Pat Garrett.

Yep have to agree, don't know how I could have forgotten it. What an outstanding cast of old time Hollywood actors
Wife and I saw it in 1963 on one of the first days we both had off at the same time. Seems like yesterday sitting in one of the first new movies with great chairs that would tilt/rock.
The way it was filmed also made it great on the big screen.

The picture was one of only two dramatic films made in the curved-screen three-projector Cinerama process, which added to its original impact.

That's a good one! There aren't too many films that combine comedy with the western theme.
Another would be 'The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean'. Or 'Paint Your Wagon'.

I vote for 'The Outlaw Josey Wales'. :)
