I'm thinking the black eagle on silver background changed to the silver eagle on black background in '72 coincident with the New Model introduction. Can anyone verify that? My memory is not what it used to be.
Thank you.

I remember reading that they used to have a red background with silver eagle. When Mr Sturm died Ruger changed the background to black in his memory. I can't recall the year though, I'm sure others here will know.

Is there a comparable article somewhere for the semiauto pistol grips

Except for the early Red Eagle Medallions, the Auto's grip medallions paralleled the changes that occurred in the Single Action line or vice versa.

Chad Hiddleson's book on the Autos, Encyclopedia of Ruger, has ALWAYS been my source for grip medallion info. Contact him via his username here on the Forum..... Chet15
