What round is this?

My gunshop has on display an artillery sized projectile I've not seen before. The projectile is black with a plug in the nose where a fuse would go. It is about 4" in diameter, maybe 16" long, and has six folding fins on which it stands. The fins are aluminum color. The tag identifies it as "HEAT round for 106mm recoiless rifle." My problem with this is I doubt very seriously that it is a projectile for the 106mm recoiless.

The 106 recoiless rifle was that, a rifle, with a rifled bore. This projectile has no rotating bands, it is fin stabilized. HEAT (High Explosive Anti Tank) rounds has an aluminum ogive nose cap over s shaped charge.

I'm guessing it is some kind of high velocity projectile fired from a smoothbore tank gun, maybe the 105mm?

Some of you old warhorses who rode around in tanks, or maybe served in artillery units, can y'all be of any help?

105mm tank guns are rifled; the 120 is a smooth bore. The APFSDS-T (I think I got that right - Armor Piercing Fin Stabilized Discarding Sabot - Tracer) round for the 105mm used/uses a sabot to engage the rifling, as described in the name. It's essentially a large depleted uranium dart, and the training round is made of tungsten carbide rather than DU. My point being that not every projectile for a rifled bore has to actually engage the rifling, but may be encased in a sabot.

This projectile does not appear to be a sabot round. The sabot rounds I have seen (only on TV or in pictures, admittedly) are longer and smaller in diameter after shedding the sabot. Further there is a plug in the nose, maybe for a fuse.

If not, its might close to it! Now, what is it?

O.K. Searched further. The thing appears to have a rocket assist motor in the base. Sort of a combination of percussion/rocket. Been reading further, the thing (106 mm RR) is being brought back into use to replace TOW missiles etc.
