If you live here, or in AL and SC, you know LOL

Just finished reading a book on Hemingway and he takes a friend on a road trip through Spain to see the sights... this is in the 50's and he had done the same route in the 30's ... he was disgusted because you could not see the country side in most places because of all the road signs..... seems nothing has changed... I believe the bill board industry would go out of business if the the lawyers quit advertising.
I still remember when it was unethical for them to actually advertise .........

The Glenda Mitchell sign did it for me LOL I've seen them throughout all of GA and AL. In one place near me you could see three of them while standing in one place. I don't go thru SC that much, but it's probably the same there.

I've never see anyone with that many billboards! Drop me on any busy highway in GA and I will be in sight of a Glenda Mitchell billboard or a Dollar General LOL

A few weeks ago I did the approach trail and the first 42 miles of the AT in North GA. I’ll tell you what it looks like… it looks like straight up for 42 miles. I didn’t see any road signs.

I must admit I have never stopped to think about what North Georgia looks like. In fact, Georgia is the only state in the USA that I have never been to. It is possible to train our brains not to see the billboards and thereby enjoy the scenery, just as we can drive through an urban area and essentially not see all of the electrical, phone and other lines lining every street.

Directions to an acquaintance’s place go something like this - take the highway south out of town. Take the first right after the second Dollar General….

I was riding motorcycles with a friend a couple weeks ago, we were coming South on 411 into Chatsworth Ga, Glenda Mitchell sign...x 8........in the maybe 3-4mi stretch thru an old carpet town.
I can only imagine she is trying to get in on any workplace accident she can..

I'll never forget the amount of Wall drug billboards I saw when I rode my motorcycle to Sturgis in '03
Yeah but come on, those are so epic. Like the Burma Shave billboards.

I’ve driven across SD several times and without the Wall Drug Billboards you would fall asleep.

I’ve never seen a Burma (Berma?) Shave billboard but Wyandot Jim talked about them here once.

I saw this billboard coming home from NC, it was on the West side of Little Rock AR. So I think they are talking about Amarillo, TX

I thought they were just a bit optimistic.

Vermont does not allow billboards and advertisings signs have size restrictions, It is a noticeable and welcome absence
This ^^

I used to live in the Brattleboro area and there was a restaurant at I-91 exit 3. Had been there for years so had a sign from before the limitations, was really tall, and said STEAK.
They went under and a Chinese restaurant bought the place around '89 or '90, but they couldn't redo the sign to say the restaurant name, so they just removed the S and K.
I always thought that was quite clever.

Reminiscing,
Tom

Interesting, I did a lot of business with Dompier. They were the electrical contractor for the build out and renovation work we did for the food coop.

south of the boarder. ha. every 2 miles for 500 miles. then, when you get there, maybe 3 cars in the parking lot.
The last time I stopped there was about 1992. The coffee was so BAD that I dumped it on the parking lot. The restrooms hadn't seen a mop in ages it seemed. Needless to say if given the opportunity again I will definitely just keep o driving and look for a McDonalds..

Seems the protocol at these new Buccees is to just pull up to a pump and park there while you go in to shop then come out and fill up on the cheap gas after you've spent money on all the cheap Chinese junk they offer inside. Dern things are as big as a Walmart and have pretty much just as much stuff... don't ask me why but I actually counted the urinals in the mens rest room.... 27! and that doesn't include the stalls.
