1886 Winchester made in 1890. 45-70, unknown what the caliber was when it left the factory. It had a new barrel in about 1950 in .33 Winchester, the magazine tube was shortened to match the shorter 24 inch barrel, a peep sight installed on the receiver.
2012, I had the caliber changed to 45-70 from the same .33 caliber barrel. The metal was reblued then and I repaired, replaced a few parts to get it working like a fine watch. All screws, some springs, firing pin and cartridge carrier was replaced. With the current magazine length, it holds 4 rounds in the mag. I fire 405 gr bullets loaded within the trapdoor 45-70 fps loads. Reseach that I found says 1886s made after 1905? have better steel and can fire hotter loads. The rifle came from the factory with a 2 stage set trigger.
