What is correct?

But, but, someone on the internet said there is no such thing! I'm confused, too!
No confusion 
. Your right, there is not such cartridge 
. However some companies still use the 'alias' that (of course) is no longer needed. I don't know why they propagate it as we all know it is really the .45 Colt. Any one that bothers to learn the history of the .45 Colt cartridge knows this, and knows why it was necessary to call it the .45 Long Colt for a period of time. Of course it is no longer necessary as we only have the .45 ACP, .45 Colt, .45 Auto Rim, .45 Gap, and the .45 Schofield today (might have missed a few..) . Might even be a short 'Cowboy' too....
BTW, I just checked the several Hornady manuals I have and they are all now .45 Colt as they should be. The third edition I have does reference it as the Long Colt as the main heading (like above) but clarifies it in the write up as .45 Colt .... Go figure.

Now just what the heck am I supposed to feed my CZ 75B: 9mm, 9x19, 9mm Luger, 9mm Parabellum? And once I know that, where do I put it, in the clip or the magazine? Help!

Go find me a Colt sixgun marked "Long". Then we can argue about it again. Until then, ".45 Long Colt" is an unofficial nickname and nothing more. 100million people could call it the ".45 Fartknocker" but that doesn't make it any less incorrect. :roll:

This is what is stamped on my Colt by Colt. Guess Colt's wrong. Should I send it back and have it restamped with the proper nomenclature?

Whether you call it a .45 Colt, a .45 LC or a .45 Long Colt, it is all the same thing because there is no official name that is any more "correct" than the others.

Only a half wit does not understand that ALL cartridges have an official name. One that is registered with SAAMI. There was a .38Long Colt and a .41Long Colt but never a .45 Long Colt. As there was never a "Short" version. I would wager that 99% of the people arguing in favor of "Long" don't even know what it was originally used to differentiate. It sure as hell ain't the .45ACP. What about you 5of7, had you even heard of the .45Gov't before it was mentioned in one of these threads??? Did you have to Google it?
