What is a Super Blackhawk Worth with a 10" barrel

There is a Super Blackhawk with a factory 10" maybe 12" barrel on it in excellent condition. The pre fix number is 85 which puts it in the 1985 to 1989 manufacture. I am interested in it but the guy doesn't know what it is worth. I want to be fair with the guy but I don't want to be in it so deep that I can't get my money out of it if I decide it isn't for me. I'm just not totally taken by this one but I "think" I have to have it. :lol:

The "early" versions have "tapered" barrels and the later versions have "heavy walled Bull Barrels". These guns were produced with silhouette shooting in mind. The tapered barreled examples are harder to find, especially in stainless steel. They also have "standard" length ejector housings whereas the later versions have extended length ejector assemblies.

I've had this one for quite a few years............ ........ homeboy front sight blade. Nice and tall!

There is a NIB stainless 10.5" tapered barrel selling on GB auction now for $525, its gone at least two "rounds" of 7 days without selling. That ought to guide you as to price.

I ran 50 rounds through mine the first day...another 100 or so the first week...less than 500 over the next year....then it sat in the safe until I traded it and another pistol for the just introduced MARLIN 1895 COWBOY and brass for it several years later.

"It shoots like a rifle" AND is about as easy to carry with you. A good shot can do some amazing things...at least to unskilled observers...with one. I'd like to take one and a lot of ammo up to the Quigley rifle shoot in Forsyth Montana; have a spotter; and see how long it would take to hit the 800 yard life sized steel buffalo. "Two seconds for the boolit to get there and longer for the sound of the hit to come back."

IF you don't like that barrel length, "relief is a hack saw away." I'd like to try a 5.5 inch barrel with the longer ejector rod housing...there is a picture on page 135 of Hamilton Bowen's excellent book, THE CUSTOM REVOLVER.

IF you decide to get this, spend some yankee dollars on a BOWEN Target rear sight...don't know if he has a specific model for this barrel length...an inter-changeable blade front sight like Jim Stroh of ALPHA PRECISION makes...and a trigger job. THEN take it out where you can see what it will do.

I almost got one of these but already had a gun on lay-a-way at my LGS and it was gone when I payed off the other one., If you get it I would love a range report.

I picked up an S411N ('bull' bbl) in January for $325 in excellent condition, no box or papers... Got an S410N (tapered bbl) for $450 a couple months ago, again no box or papers but in pristine condition.

I bought an IHMSA 1 of 500 limited edition (tapered barrel) a few years ago for $325 in unfired condition with original box AND shipper. Sold it at auction for $525 not too long after that.

I also have a stainless bull barrel model. I got it by trading a gun that was given to me, so I really have nothing in it.....but I suppose I could get $450 out of it pretty easily if I decided to get rid of it.

Just a little advice for you (after having owned two of these myself).....If you're going to be doing long range shooting off a bench, then this gun works great. But if you're going to be using it for hunting or short range shooting/plinking (not off of a bench), then you might be better suited with a 5.5" or 7.5" barrel. Not trying to talk you out of it, though. Just offering my opinion.
