What Holster?

I have one of the 50th year anniversary model of the Flattop 44 mag. I have been using it at the range stoked with 44 specials. I would like to know what holsters were in use back when the original 44 flattop was being produced?

EL Paso Saddlery was producting the Threepersons and the Austin. There is a waiting period when you order, but the wait is worth it.

Any Threepersons (Lawrence 120) style is right at home on a pants belt and the Austin is a great gun belt rig IMHO. Either of those models are timeless and both have their roots from the same general ideas of quick access and minimal coverage.

I love the Threepersons on a 1 3/4" trouser belt. EPS is a great name and has been around forever but take a look at what Rob Leahy and "Reuben J. Cogburn" (AK Leather works) are doing with the 120 style. Mike Barranti also comes to mind but his work is in a class of it's own and will take a bit longer but be well worth the wait.

A Lawrence would be the correct Vintage Rig if you are looking for that period and a tiemless cvlassic, I just think the new leather makers out there do a better job and make a sturdier rig that will last as long as the gun will.

I have 2 EPS ThreePersons holsters and like them. The problem is with a Flattop that rear sight will open up your forearm if it isn't covered/protected. At least that's the case with my 44 Special TALO Flattop. Here's what I use when carrying around the farm. It's an old Bucheimer that I modified. Not pretty but functional. Holsters like the Bianchi 5BHL have that leather flap already made into them --- it's there for a reason.

Rob of www.simplyrugged.com builds a holster on the lines of the 120 I believe. He does great work.
